Sussex have lost six of their eight matches in the T20 Blast South Group this season and they may struggle to turn things around against Hampshire, who won the competition last season.

James Vince’s men have won their last four T20 meetings with the Sharks and they chased down a target of 145 without losing a wicket in this month’s clash at the Rose Bowl.

Team news

Sussex are missing opener Ali Orr due to a knee injury while all-rounder Delray Rawlins has returned home to Bermuda.

Pakistan’s Shadab Khan and Australian seamer Nathan McAndrew are set to fill the two overseas spots for the Sharks.

Hampshire have had a settled side in this year’s T20 Blast with seven players, including Australia internationals Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis, featuring in all eight South Group matches.

Sussex Sharks Fall Of First Wicket Under 20.5 @ 10/11

Sussex lost their first meeting of the season with Hampshire by 10 wickets and their most recent home T20 game at Hove ended in a 124-run defeat to Surrey, who posted a colossal total of 258-6 batting first.

The Sharks have been hampered by their lack of firepower at the top of the order all summer, particularly after the injury to exciting opener Ali Orr, and Hampshire should be confident of taking early wickets on the Sussex coast.

Sussex have lost their first wicket with the score at nine, 29, two, 25, 19, nought, 25 and 12 in eight South Group games this season and Hampshire, who dismissed both Middlesex openers for ducks in a match earlier this month, can strike with the new ball again.

Sussex’s Tom Clark has had five different opening partners in eight games this summer, including former England all-rounder Ravi Bopara, but the hosts seem no closer to finding the right combination at the top of the order.

James Vince Top Hampshire Hawks Run Scorer @ 2/1

Hampshire opener James Vince became the leading runscorer in T20 Blast history earlier this season, breaking the record set by Sussex legend Luke Wright, and he can extend his superb run of Twenty20 scores against the Sharks.

Vince suffered a rare setback in the defeat to Kent last time out, when he was bowled first ball, but he has top-scored in each of Hampshire’s last five Blast clashes with Sussex, including scores of 102, 65, 65 and 71 not out in the last four.

The Hawks captain is once again leading from the front this season, scoring a century and four fifties in his first eight Blast innings.

And he should enjoy a visit to Hove, where Surrey opener Laurie Evans struck 93 and number three Sam Curran smashed 68 off just 35 deliveries in Sussex’s most recent South Group fixture.
