Guevara is your 4/9 favourite while the younger Curiel is 19/10. Will his freshness make that an attractive price? The draw is up at 14/1. Each boxer has one previous draw on their record. Always worth highlighting ahead of a fight like this.
Guevara vs Curiel Fight Preview
Ten years separates these men in age, with Guevara a decade older at 36. But apart from straddling the Millennial-Gen Z divide, these two have a hell of a lot in common.
Pointing out both fighters hail from Mexico feels like an open goal, given that is where the card takes place. But both are also former light flyweight world champions. And most of all, they each share a desire to get back to the gold after failed attempts in their most recent attempts.
These are two men who share a common cause. They are fighting against becoming yesterday’s men.
That clamour might be greater for Guevara. 36 is not old in the heavier divisions, but is practically jurassic at super flyweight, where this 10-rounder takes place. Guevara got pieced up by Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez in a WBC and The Ring championship bout in November of last year. His conqueror is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, but Guevara falling to him in three rounds did seem to hit at the end.
Curiel has won his last two, albeit in rather rank-and-file company. But those restorative bouts were needed after Sunny Edwards took a technical decision off him last year. Like Guevara’s ‘Bam’ battering, the Edwards defeat does not look good. Sunny had his heart broken by Galal Yafai in his very next bout.
So we see two ex-champions who have lost their most recent big fights meet at what has long been called The Last Chance Saloon. It is an establishment with unclear rules. I mean Derek Chisora has survived last orders at its bar on half a dozen occasions. But generally, you either leave quickly or you don’t leave at all.

These are far from worn-out husks fighting in Mexico. Both have excellent wins in fairly recent memory. Guevara out-scored Andrew Moloney in 2024, albeit controversially in the eyes of some. Meanwhile, Curiel went to Monte Carlo to knock out then-IBF champ Sivenathi Nontshinga in two rounds to lift his world title in November 2023.
But then ‘Bam’ manhandled Guevara and Curiel was KO’ed by Nontshinga in his rematch. Curiel was one fight early in trying to find a fading Sunny, while Guevara is yet to gauge what he has left. On Saturday night, we find out.

Guevara vs Curiel Prediction
Curiel has the edge in terms of youth but lacks power, with just five wins out of 26 being inside the distance. Guevara has the better resume but twice as many fights on the clock. The veteran is a better puncher, but not an exceptional one with 22 knockouts in his 45 victories.
You would think Curiel will have to try and out-box his man. That is a tricky business with Guevara. Taking the ‘Bam’ knockout away, every single loss on Guevara’s record has been either a split or majority decision. Chuck one draw in there too and you see how hard it is to take a clear judge’s nod from this man.
Given his extra snap, his experience and his know-how over the distance I like Guevara. I like him more looking at Curiel’s recent vulnerability.
Guevara got taken out by a fighter in Rodriguez who sits in every credible boxing analyst’s pound-for-pound list. Curiel got beaten by Edwards, who would retire following a loss of desire in his next fight, and this came after losing to Nontshinga, who he had already beaten (and who immediately lost the title in his next fight by knockout).
I’m picking Guevara here on points. He knows his way around 12 rounds like few others and I think he can seize on a lack of confidence in the opposite corner. Guevara on points is 5/6.
