Lane vs Cain Predictions: Cain is able to pull off the knockout

Ashley Lane defends his British and Commonwealth bantamweight belts against Andrew Cain this Saturday, July 20. The championship 12-rounder takes place at the Birmingham Resorts World Arena as part of Queensberry’s Magnificent Seven bill. TNT Sports 1 will showcase the event live.
Here are my Lane vs Cain predictions ahead of this intriguing domestic clash.
Lane secured a career-best win last time out. 17-10-2 heading in, few expected ‘Flash’ to have enough to beat the rising Chris Bourke. Fewer still expected Lane to score just his third career knockout, winning the fight and the vacant British and Commonwealth titles.
It had been six years since Lane had last held Commonwealth gold. He had never strapped the British belt around his waist, losing in a 2019 challenge to Brad Foster. But here Lane was, with a record edging towards journeyman status, winning two prestigious domestic championships.
Cain comes into this one with a solid 11-1 record. Only Ionut Baluta, who fights for the European title next, has beaten him. That loss came via a split decision after Cain had the Spaniard on the canvas twice in the opening round. The 27-year-old was punished for failing to finish Baluta off, going down himself in the ninth before losing on the cards.
But that explosiveness is a feature of Cain’s game. The Livepudlian has 10 knockouts from 11 victories. Eight of his wins have arrived inside three rounds. At this early stage, it appears that this Scouser can swing.
A veteran fighter known for boxing his way to victory takes on a young wrecking ball, with two genuine and respected titles on the line? This is a lovely piece of matchmaking from Queensberry. The beauty of these Magnificent Seven cards is the shining of an arena spotlight on fighters who have lit up small halls. These two are well worth the platform.
Lane is a mammoth 17/2 underdog, a huge price for a reigning champion. It is indicative of just how unexpected his title win truly was. Cain is 1/16 to snatch the straps while a draw is priced at 22/1.

Lane vs Cain Prediction
This one is only going one way. Lane’s story is a wonderful one, but this feels destined to be Cain’s night. I expect him to seize control of the British and Commonwealth hardware by knockout. I like the round grouping market here, in particular the 9/5 shot of Cain wrapping this up in rounds 4-6.
