Jacobs vs Mosley Jr. Predictions: Son of ‘Suga’ steps up

Former world middleweight champion Danny Jacobs takes on Shane Mosley Jr. this Saturday, July 6 up at super middleweight. The bout takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Jacobs vs Mosley Jr. will be part of the undercard for Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal, live on DAZN.
Here are my Jacobs vs Mosley Jr. predictions ahead of this super middleweight showdown.
Jacobs vs Mosley Jr. Tips
- Mosley Jr. to win @ 4/5
There are only four years between these men, with Jacobs aged 37 and Mosley the younger man at 33. But if you staged this fight at almost any other point in their respective careers, this would be a complete mismatch.
Jacobs has had a career of distinction. ‘The Golden Child’ is a two-time middleweight champion of the world. Jacobs holds wins over world champions like Caleb Truax, Peter Quillin and Sergio Mora. He also gave Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez one of his toughest fights in a thrilling middleweight unification battle.
Perhaps the most incredible thing about Jacobs’ career is he accomplished all this after having to take 19 months out of the sport in 2011 while recovered from a rare form of bone cancer. No fighter has earned his nickname quite as heroically as ‘Miracle Man’.
By contrast, Mosley Jr. has walked a well-trodden path. The 33-year-old has found the name of his famous father, ‘Suga’ Shane Mosley, has weighed heavily. That is no shame considering Mosley Sr is a Hall of Fame icon. But still, like so many sons of legendary boxing fathers, Mosley’s career stalled for a good while.
Mosley lost in his fourth pro fight and would incur three further defeats over the years, including one to Ireland’s Jason Quigley. Promoters were always willing to find space for Mosley Jr. because of his name, but for a long time he struggled to live up to it.
But Mosley Jr. is on a fine run of form at the moment, kicked off by a win over former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado. Mosley Jr. has racked up four consecutive wins, gatecrashing the middleweight world rankings in the process. The 33-year-old is ranked in the top five of both the WBO, WBA and WBC while he is placed seventh by the IBF.
Jacobs meanwhile is coming off a loss to John Ryder in a major upset. The American has been inactive since, accounting for over two years out of the ring. Suddenly, for the first time, Jacobs and Mosley Jr. are crossing paths at a point where this fight makes sense. What once would have been a mismatch now looks competitive.
Jacobs vs Mosley Jr. Fight Odds
The fight odds bear this assessment out. Jacobs is 1/1 to get the job done here while Mosley Jr. is a step in front at 4/5. The draw is priced at 14/1.

Jacobs vs Mosley Jr. Prediction
The running theme here is that at almost any time in their respective careers, you would pick Jacobs to win this fight. The fact he is even an underdog feels strange to say the least. But after two-and-a-half years out of the ring, how much does he truly have left?
Mosley Jr. has fought four times since Jacobs lost to Ryder, winning every bout. I am backing him to ultimately have too much for the veteran here. It is sad to say, but this looks like one fight too many for ‘The Miracle Man’. I’m picking Mosley Jr. at 4/5 to get the job done.
