Hutchinson vs Taylor Odds

Hutchinson comes into this contest as a fairly firm 8/15 favourite, while Taylor is available at 7/4 to pull off the upset. This could well turn out to be closely contested, as evidenced by the 12/1 price for the fight to be a draw.

Willy Hutchinson to win @ 4/7

This looks an intriguing contest between two men who were never really on a collision course until one fateful night back at this very same arena in November. A ringside argument and scuffle between the pair at the Zach Parker vs Joshua Buatsi card saw the 175lb domestic contenders matched up fairly rapidly for this undercard bout.

Hutchinson (19-2-0 (14ko)) was originally looking further down the track and was meant to be fighting the winner of Parker and Buatsi but, when that didn't materialise, the grudge match against an unbeaten Taylor suddenly came sharply into focus.

Despite being four years the younger, 'Braveheart' is by far the more experienced fighter, with a stellar amateur career for Scotland and Great Britain laying the groundwork for a solid professional resume to date. Twenty-one contests have followed, with just two of those ending in defeat.

He suffered a devastating KO loss in 2021 against Lennox Clarke for the British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles before a split decision loss against Buatsi in September 2024, when fighting for a WBO Interim light heavyweight strap. Before, between and after those two setbacks have been plenty of impressive performances, most notably when defeating an ex-British champion in this division, Craig Richards.

Now he faces a man who has yet to taste defeat in Ezra Taylor (13-0-0 (9ko)), who admittedly hasn't fought anywhere near this level yet still looks a live and real threat to Hutchinson.

Taylor does hold a couple of minor WBA baubles but his only real victory of note was against ex-English light-heavy champ Troy Jones in front of his adoring Nottingham fanbase. This will be a major step-up for 'The Cannon' and it's not one I see him being capable of making.

Hutchinson has a strange, unorthodox way of fighting, with his long rangy limbs, flailing in at unusual angles, making defence a really tough prospect. He can also put together impressive salvos of combination punches and can bang a bit when needed.

Taylor also carries power but, while I see both men potentially being hurt here, I think it will be the Scot who gets the better of the exchanges and exposes the Englishman's lack of experience and leaky defence.

Willy Hutchinson to win on points @ 6/5

That being said, I see this fight going the distance, as a proud and undefeated Taylor will not quit easily.

I'm predicting 'Braveheart' to win a fairly close contest by 2-3 rounds and to move on to bigger fights in the near future.
