Hutchinson vs Jeffers Predictions: Two men hit the road to redemption in Scotland

‘The Hutch Train’ is leaving the station again as Scottish contender Willy Hutchinson welcomes Mark Jeffers to the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on Saturday, October 4. This quality 10-rounder serves as the chief support for Nathaniel Collins’ shot at European featherweight champion Cristobal Lorente. The fight will air live on DAZN.
Read on for my Hutchinson vs Jeffers predictions ahead of this light heavyweight scrap.

Jeffers was on a roll until recently and his 13/5 price reflects the damage his summer loss has done. Hutchinson is favoured at 1/3 reflecting his recent brushes with world class opposition. The draw is priced at 12/1, a result neither has ever endured as a professional.
Hutchinson vs Jeffers Fight Preview
High-level sport is an island of narrow margins. Win and untold riches await. Lose, and you might just get booted off the island altogether. It’s all a bit Bear Grylls, except nobody is drinking piss (that we know of).
If these two men had won their previous fight, Hutchinson vs Jeffers would likely be headlining this card with a world title on the line. At the very least, an interim version would have been up for grabs as the victor eyed a fanciful crack at undisputed boss Dmitry Bivol.
Hutchinson went to war with Joshua Buatsi in Riyadh a year ago. The WBO interim light heavyweight crown was on the line. It was a spirited display from the Scot, but he was decked twice on the way to losing a split decision.
‘Hutch’ has spoken openly about his mental health struggles during a year out of the ring. The precipice of a fringe world belt gave way to the gaping maw of uncertainty and self-doubt. An April clash with Zach Parker was scuppered when Hutchinson suffered an injury. But these frustrations seem to be behind the Scotsman now, who comes into this fight under new trainer Shane McGuigan.
Ranked as the number-eight light heavyweight in the world by the WBC, there is a path back for the likeable Carstairs boy. That road starts on Saturday with Willy’s first fight in the country of his birth since 2018.
Jeffers is another man on the road back to prominence after flirting with world titles. The Irish-born Chorley resident had a point when he would gripe about Barnsley golden boy Callum Simpson getting all the British super middleweight attention. But when Jeffers had a chance to land an ‘I told you so’ on his doubters, he stumbled.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
When Simpson won the European title in June in an up-down war with Ivan Zucco, Jeffers was in the chief support bout. That day at Oakwell Stadium, the Irishman was booed by a pro-Simpson crowd as he engaged in a scintillating war with American gatekeeper Sean Hemphill. The visitor shocked the favourite, leaving with a well-deserved majority decision. Square one beckoned for Jeffers.
The 27-year-old has elected to rebuild up at light heavyweight. Taking this as your first assignment at a new weight shows considerable bravery. The away fighter once again, Jeffers goes in with a world-ranked foe on enemy turf. You cannot accuse this man of ducking a challenge.
This one could catch fire. Hutchinson can get drawn into a war and Jeffers loves to go full-throttle. The main event is expected to be a crowning moment for Collins. But this co-main event could provide the night’s most scintillating scrap.

Hutchinson vs Jeffers Prediction
I find it tough to split these two. Jeffers has been more active and the Hemphill fight could have gone either way at times. But the American losing his subsequent bout to 4-2 Misfits boxer Ty Mitchell perhaps blunts his argument here.
Hutchinson has the home crowd on his side and the world-level experience that Jeffers lacks. The lay-off might come into play, but McGuigan does not send his fighters out there lacking fitness. Hutchinson has always had a good engine and I do not foresee too many problems on that score.
I reckon it’ll be tight and tense though. I see it going the distance. Hutchinson out-strips Jeffers in the power department, with a knockout percentage of just above 72% compared to his opponent’s 35%. But I still reckon Jeffers hangs in there. Give me Hutchinson on points at 21/20.
