Francesco Grandelli takes on Nathaniel Collins this Saturday, May 11 at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London. The featherweight attraction will be screened on TNT Sports 1, on the undercard of Denzel Bentley vs Danny Dignum.

Here are my Grandelli vs Collins predictions ahead of this 126-pound showdown.

Grandelli vs Collins Tips

  • Collins by knockout @ 8/15
  • Fight to go the distance - Yes @ 4/9

‘The Nightmare’ Nathaniel Collins has been on a tear over the last few years. He has captured the Commonwealth and British featherweight championships, defending both on multiple occasions. There have been stunning finishes, like knockouts of James Beech Jr and Raza Hamza.

Some fights have been closer. Last time out, Collins retained his titles with a thin majority decision over Zak Miller. It was a thrilling bout, with the unbeaten but unheralded challenger testing Collins’ limits. The champion prevailed though and in the wake of the victory, he targeted European title honours.

Grandelli knows all about challenging for the continental crown. The 29-year-old has contested two European featherweight title fights in his career, but is yet to win the belt. Both fights came against countryman Mauro Forte. In the first, a draw was rendered on the scorecards after 12 rounds of action. The second saw Forte knock Grandelli out in a single round. A rivalry of contrasts.

Grandelli has two wins on the bounce since that chastening defeat. The first was a routine six-round points win over journeyman Emiliano Salvini. The second saw him lift the EBU silver belt which he defends against Collins, knocking out Stefan Voda in two rounds.

The latter performance and the European ranking belt it gave him has put Grandelli back on the rails. A win on away turf over Collins will put him right back at the queue for another European title shot. A make-good against Forte surely appeals and a win at York Hall puts the Italian one step closer.

But Collins won’t go down without a fight. Ranked fifth in the world with the WBC, the Scotsman will be well aware of what a victory here could mean. If he continues on the traditional route he has taken, a European title could be next. Once that title is secured, the world awaits for the 14-0 star.

Collins is favoured to triumph here and it is easy to see why. It is difficult for a fighter to get out from under a first-round knockout loss. While Grandelli has won since and looked good doing so, to many he is defined by the Forte battering.

There are certainly some who will expect Collins to bring about a similar result. If you do like the idea of another early stoppage, you can get 25/1 for a Collins first round win. I personally won’t be picking this market for my prediction, but considering Collins only has one first-rounder on his record.

I’m going for a slightly more conservative 8/15 choice of Collins to get the job done by knockout at any time. Grandelli can be gotten-to and I think the Scottish slugger will find his way through. How long it takes depends on how much of the Italian is left from recent wars. But after this one, I expect Collins to be the fighter left standing.
