Delgado vs Flores Predictions: Mexican civil war could ignite

Unbeaten prospect Lindolfo Delgado takes on Bryan Flores this Saturday, August 10. The super lightweight collision takes place on the undercard of Luis Alberto Lopez’s IBF featherweight title defence against Angelo Leo. The show takes place at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sky Sports Action will broadcast the event.
Here are my Delgado vs Flores predictions ahead of this fascinating showdown.
Barring a draw, somebody’s 0 must go in this all-Mexican meeting. 2016 Olympian Delgado has gone 20-0 as a pro, creeping into the world rankings along the way. Flores’ own exploits have gone unsung, with his 26-0-1 ledger largely compiled in his native Mexico.
A US debut against Shinard Bunch brought mixed fortunes. Flores hit the deck in the first round and must have been fearing the worst. But he rallied to score a split decision win and lift a regional IBF belt in the process. The lightning combo that deposited Flores on his backside did demonstrate a vulnerability to hand-speed, however.
Delgado is more methodical than Bunch, preferring patient punches thrown off the jab over flashy combos. But he can be quick when spotting an opening, often finding a home for his right hand through pockets of space in an opponent’s guard. Flores will have to be wary of the counter against a fighter more technically sound than him.
Flores’ shots are wild and less schooled than those of Delgado. But they hurt. Just ask the 15 men he’s knocked out in 26 fights. Rather than one-punch effectiveness, ‘Nina Maravilla’ tends to wear his man down before getting him out of there. Flores will look to make this a real grind.
That could play into Delgado’s hands. If Flores throws too much too soon, the Olympian will pick him off from distance. Delgado is unhurried and likes to dictate the pace of his fights. Flores must be smart in trying to disrupt that rhythm. Throwing caution to the wind could get him hurt.
There is a temptation within boxing to lean into a cliche when two Mexicans face off. Fans have been reared on the electric Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales trilogy or Rafael Marquez’s thrill-a-minute series with Israel Vasquez. It is easy to assume every meeting of Mexican minds will produce the same fireworks.
While I’m not predicting Barrera-Morales levels of transcendent and influential violence, I do feel like Saturday’s scrap could sizzle. Both men come to fight and this classic boxer vs brawler match-up could thrill. Let’s hope so.
Delgado opens as our favourite, with odds of 1/8. Flores is your underdog, available at 5/1 odds of victory. The draw is priced at 16/1.

Delgado vs Flores Predictions
Styles make fights and this match-up favours Delgado in that respect. Flores is tough and can make it a fight, but ultimately I think Delgado’s superior boxing literacy will steer him home.
Flores can win one type of fight: a brawl. Barring a wild, 50-50 shootout, I favour Delgado in any other type of battle. I’m going for Delgado to pull a knockout of the bag here at 13/10.
