Bohachuk vs Adams Predictions: Revenge is served cold, but Adams won’t go lightly

Serhii Bohachuk gets the chance to reap his long-awaited revenge against Brandon Adams this Saturday, September 13. The rematch takes place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, on the undercard of Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford. The event takes place live on Netflix.
Here are my Bohachuk vs Adams predictions ahead of this super welterweight scrap.
Bohachuk is priced at 2/9 while underdog Adams is marketed at 18/5, despite his victory in their last meeting. The draw is priced at 14/1.
Bohachuk vs Adams Fight Preview
‘El Flaco’ has a bone to pick with his opponent in this one. While Adams is coming off a defeat and currently finds himself outside the world rankings, it is not the American’s rank or status that Bohachuk is pursuing. Rather it is that plain old motivator that has fuelled more sporting rematches, reality show meltdowns and straight-to-DVD Steven Seagal sequels than anything else: revenge.
So this time, is it personal? Well it must be, musn’t it? There is precious little reason for this fight to take place otherwise. Bohachuk is the former WBC interim champion and coming off solid wins over Ishmael Davis and Mykal Fox. The Ukrainian is in the world top-five of the WBC, IBF and WBO (the ever-questionable WBA don’t even feature him in their top 15). In a division with six 'world' champions (don’t ask), Bohachuk is highly likely to compete for a belt in the near future.
Adams is unlikely to get invited to the championship party currently, even with more belts on offer than a Topman sale rail. A split-decision defeat to unbeaten WBC number-15 Andreas Katzourakis last time out seemed to snuff out the world title hopes of the ‘Cannon’.
But Bohachuk is fighting Adams because of the story. Boxing is a sport that runs on narrative. It is little wonder that it sustains more enduring films about its inner workings than any other athletic endeavour. Rocky has been aped by almost every piece of underdog cinema for 50 years. Raging Bull’s snarling pathos is borrowed as often as its greyscale blood-drama.
So a protagonist looking to right a historic wrong lends itself to the hurt game perhaps more than any other sport. Bohachuk was shockingly stopped by Adams back in 2021. Now he wants his revenge.
The story carries all the hallmarks. There is a streak of villainy, with Adams losing a point for low blows in the third round of the original. There is a fall to earth, with Bohachuk’s loss being his first as a professional. There is even your classic 90s trailer promise of “Bigger. Better. Louder.”, with the first fight taking place in Guaynabo gym while the sequel will light up Sin City.
But beyond the bluster, is there a real need for this bout? I’d say so. Now feels like the time. In an era of constant immediate rematches, Bohachuk took a different tack. The Ukrainian licked his wounds and won his next six. This included picking up the WBC interim strap, beating a quality former world champion in Brian Mendoza and stopping good men like Nathaniel Gallimore and Patrick Allotey.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
In theory, an interim championship is supposed to secure you a crack at the full thing. Which it still might, but not for Bohachuk. The 30-year-old fought incredibly well against unbeaten phenom Vergil Ortiz Jr., knocking the favourite down twice over 12 hotly-contested rounds. Bohachuk was beaten on the cards via majority decision. Opinions differ on the judge’s call. Another revenge mission for Serhii?
Adams probably needs this fight more than Bohachuk if he wants to return to any sort of prominence. While his victim learned the lessons of their 2021 contest, Brandon failed to capitalise on his unexpected bounty.
Adams would not fight for three years post-Bohachuk. The fighter blamed his promotional team and a lack of opportunities. Perhaps the California native had joined the “who needs him?” club. Often an upset win can actually warn off potential opponents more than it encourages them.
The American broke his fistic fast by entering Overtime Boxing’s OTX super welterweight tournament, reaching the final. On the way, he clipped Ismael Villarreal in three rounds and out-scored Francisco Daniel Veron over 10. But Adams came unstuck in the showpiece, losing via split decision to unbeaten Katzourakis of Greece.
It is telling that Bohachuk has decided the time is right for revenge. Picking on his target after Adams has just suffered his first loss since a 2019 WBC world title challenge to Jermall Charlo. But it was hardly a hurtful loss, at least physically. Meanwhile, Bohachuk himself is feeling his way back to world titles. Maybe a dose of either repeat or revenge is exactly what these men need.

Bohachuk vs Adams Prediction
Bohachuk is accomplished and dangerous. He also has a lot more experience under his belt since the first fight. Adams remains dangerous and gifted, but he strikes me as a boxer on the wane. I believe his Ukrainian opponent will go from conquered to conqueror in this rematch, winning via stoppage at 13/10.
