Caoimhin Agyarko takes on Ishmael Davis this Saturday, September 13 at Windsor Park in Belfast. The fight serves as chief support for the IBF welterweight title contest between Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan. DAZN will screen the action live.

Here are my Davis vs Agyarko predictions.

Agyarko vs Davis Odds

This is a tight one. Agyarko is the underdog, with his 5/4 odds making for a 44.4% implied chance of victory. Davis is priced at 4/6 while the draw, always appealing in a close fight, is 14/1.

Agyarko vs Davis Fight Preview

This super welterweight showdown is well-poised and closely-matched. Both men have something to prove in this one. Davis is riding two losses while Agyarko is coming off a win he hopes will reignite a promising career that is at risk of stagnating.

To Davis, first of all. Once fancied for world titles and highly-ranked by the four alphabet cartels, the 30-year-old has recently crashed back down to earth.

2024 started brilliantly for ‘The Black Panther’. Davis opened his account with a unanimous decision over Troy Williamson, who showed how dangerous he is by knocking out Mark Dickinson last weekend. But a majority points loss to Josh Kelly followed at Wembley Stadium on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois card.

That was perhaps a stroke of bad luck on Davis’ part. He was only a late replacement in that fight, with former WBO champion Liam Smith initially set to face the in-form Kelly. But rather than rebuild and rebound, Davis did the same thing again. Serhii Bohachuk had been set to meet Israil Madrimov in a clash of ex-titlists. But when the latter pulled out, Davis stepped in. The Englishman was withdrawn by his corner after six punishing rounds.

Davis’ bravery could be his biggest enemy. It is a deeply-valuable asset in the ring, but perhaps the 30-year-old needs to be protected from himself.

Agyarko is having a good year. 2024 was a frustrating one, with ‘Black Thunder’ only managing one fight. That low-stakes eight-rounder did little to raise the profile of a once-touted fighter deemed out of sight and out of mind.

But after another keep-busy win in March of this year, Agyarko was back out three weeks later in a big fight. Ryan Kelly is an accomplished boxer and a tough customer. The sort of fighter that never goes willingly and is far more gifted than his 19-6-1 record suggests.

He ran Agyarko close, too. Some felt he perhaps did enough to get the nod, but from ringside I deemed his Irish irritant a worthy winner. Agyarko was back in the spotlight, fighting under the Matchroom banner. And he was back in the win column. Now the 28-year-old gets the biggest fight of his career under the bright Belfast lights.

The edge in Davis’ top level experience means this is not the biggest bout of his career in name terms. But it could well be the most important. Two losses is life support for a boxer’s career. Three pulls the plug. A loss here would relegate Davis to gatekeeper status for the foreseeable future. There is no way ‘The Black Panther’ will stand for that.

Agyarko vs Davis Prediction

Often you look at a fighter losing two on the bounce and search for signs of a slide. I do not think we’re at that stage with Davis. He took on two world-level competitors on short notice. I’m not saying he would have beat both or even one with a full camp. But fighting boxers of the quality of Kelly and Bohachuk is a mammoth undertaking, particularly if you were expecting a different foe when your camp began.

There are no such excuses here but I don’t think Davis will need them. Agyarko is an excellent fighter but his opponent is an incredibly determined sort. Kelly’s grit nearly did for Caoimhin in spring. Davis is superior in both quality and intensity. I’m picking him to win on points at 7/5.
