The penultimate race of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival is the Mares’ Chase (4.50 on Friday) – and I think Allegorie De Vassy will be incredibly hard to beat.
Mares’ Chase 2023 Tips
- Selection: ALLEGORIE DE VASSY @ 6/4
For me, this is the best mare in training.
The six-year-old is yet to taste defeat since joining Willie Mullins’ yard in November two years ago and has won two G2 contests over fences this term by a combined 38L.
It’s not poor form she boasts either. Her win last time out at Thurles has been well-advertised, with runner-up Brides Hill comfortably beating a decent field to claim Listed success at the same track just a couple of weeks ago.
I think she’s a seriously talented mare who will have absolutely no problems with the ground, the trip or the track.
If there’s a negative, it’s her jumping. She was very good on her chase debut at Limerick in deep ground, but her jumping was sketchy at best the last day. I suspect she’ll have done plenty of schooling in the meantime though.
Impervious has to be respected, for she boasts solid form, as does Jeremys Flame and Magic Daze – but, to put it bluntly, I think Allegorie De Vassy is simply a cut above.
It’s the Cheltenham Festival, so anything could happen, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a special performance from the daughter of No Risk At All.
