Lucky 15 Tips: Thursday’s selections from super Sandown

 | Wednesday 22nd July 2026, 17:11

Wednesday 22nd July 2026, 17:11

Thursday's Lucky 15 tips are drawn from Sandown's seven-race gathering that kicks in at 13:55. Rossa Ryan's here, as is Oisin Murphy, James Doyle, Saffie Osborne and a host of tip-top jocks.

Field sizes aren't huge, but the racing here is always super-competitive on one of the most demanding tracks around. A good-looking Listed fillies' clash is probably the highlight @ 14:55, with some top yards represented. Enjoy!

14:25 Sandown - United Authority @ 6/4

Two-year-olds go 7f in this maiden stakes contest.

It's one of the day's larger fields, and there could be some really nice types among the entries, from some big yards. Several have yet to see a racecourse, a remark that applies to my selection United Authority.

He's a Dubawi colt out of a Galileo mare, owned by Wathnan Racing, and trained by Ralph Beckett. It's reported he cost 700,000 guineas as a yearling, perhaps no great surprise given that pedigree, and when one considers the success the owners enjoy, and the calibre of his trainer, he'll no doubt have his admirers this afternoon.

I'm unashamedly one of them, and though of course it's something of a leap of faith, he's seemingly got an awful lot going for him. The owner's main man James Doyle has the riding assignment, as per.

14:55 Sandown - Bayside View @ 11/4

Listed fillies now, two-year-olds, running over 7f.

On official marks, of those that have one, our selection Bayside View is the second-best 'in,' just 2lb lower than Aperoll, who's rated 92. Given the status of the race all the fillies carry the same weight, 9st 2lb, so on paper at least there are horses either with a nice little edge, or a wee bit to find.

Bayside View is a daughter of Bayside Boy, a G2 winner at this age, and out of a Shamardal (French Derby) mare. Two excellent runs so far - a neck second on debut at Donny in early June, then an impressive 5l jaunt at Newbury in a £22k novice.

Oisin Murphy was on board on that last occasion, and he retains the partnership this afternoon, for trainer Michael Bell. She's entered up in the G1 Moyglare in September, and already we know she's pretty smart.

We might be about to find out that she's very smart.

15:30 Sandown - Kamaway @ 9/4

Class 4 handicap over 10f, for older horses.

The selection Kamaway is a four-year-old Kameko filly out of a Galileo mare who comes here after winning last time 39 days ago at Salisbury, over a mile. She steps up in class and distance today, for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton, and jockey Callum Hutchinson is once again doing the steering.

Two wins all told from seven spins, and as she's another with that strong Galileo influence this trip should be well worth exploring. She's up 5lb for that last success and she's quietly progressive, advancing 12lb in the ratings since winning in March off a mark of 60.

16:42 Sandown - Talitha Rouge @ 10/3

Fillies again, a Class 5 handicap this time, for three-year-olds and upwards over 10f.

This looks competitive, and I'm siding with a David O'Meara raider coming down from Upper Helmsley in North Yorkshire. Talitha Rouge is a three-year-old daughter of a Breeders' Cup Mile winner out of a Shamardal mare.

She's had three runs to date, perfectly respectable efforts in maiden and novice company, and tried this 10f trip for the first time at Pontefract 16 days ago. She weakened close home at that super-stiff track, and to be honest Sandown is another with a tough hill to climb at the business end.

The experience should be crucial though, and perhaps ridden with restraint and played late her chance would be enhanced. Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride, a massive plus in my view, and even though the assessor hasn't missed her on her handicap debut (runs off 68), I've a feeling a big run is firmly on the cards.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £187 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
