Nap of the day generic

We've got a fairly quiet Sunday ahead of us this week, with no Irish meetings taking place, but there are three interesting meetings for us to enjoy in Britain.

Both Flat and jumps meetings are on the schedule, which means there's a little something for every racing fan. Read on for my NAP of the Day for Sunday 5 July 2026.

Market Rasen hosts the day's sole National Hunt card, while they also race Ayr and Southwell's two Class 3 handicaps will definitely be worth a watch. The first is an intriguing nine-runner event over the minimum trip and the latter is one for the stayers.

There's a bang in-form James Owen-trained runner in the concluding race of the day at Southwell who looks well set to complete his hat-trick. The horse in question is our expert's best bet of the day and could well win again before the handicapper catches up.

Horse Racing Odds

Sometimes the most obvious option is the sensible one and that appears to be the case here, as James Owen's SIXPACK has been in excellent form recently. This son of Sea The Moon has won three times in his last four starts and looks well set to go in again here.

Landing a Catterick handicap over 1m6f on his penultimate start, he followed up in a slightly better race at Newmarket next time and was very impressive, pulling seven lengths clear of the runner-up, and a 7lb rise seems pretty reasonable with that in mind.

One slight concern would be his record over two miles or further so far, but there's a good chance that is a result of other factors rather than a lack of stamina. One more chance couldn't hurt, especially as the six-year-old is in the form of his life at the moment.

In terms of potential dangers, Charlie Johnston's Sax Appeal returned to form with a one-length third in the Northumberland Vase at Newcastle last week and should be in the mix if replicating that effort here, although he can be a little inconsistent so that’s not guaranteed.

Alrazeen was narrowly denied off this mark in a better race over course and distance in December for his previous trainer and shouldn't be ruled out with that in mind. The other two runners Boatswain and New York Minute have a bit to prove on recent form.

Owen has been among the winners in the last couple of weeks and it would be no surprise if Sixpack added to his tally with another success here.
