Germany
Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann will be without a number of key players for this fixture, a list headlined by centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck.
The Borussia Dortmund defender went off injured against Ivory Coast in his side’s second group stage match and has since been diagnosed with a medial ligament injury which has ruled him out of the tournament.
Fellow defender Nathaniel Brown could also potentially be missing for the former world champions here, as he missed his side’s final group stage match with a knock.
As a result, RB Leipzig star David Raum is likely to again be deployed at left-back, with Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah expected to play in the heart of defence.
Paraguay
As for Paraguay, midfielder Diego Gomez is suspended for this knockout round match after he picked up his second yellow card in three matches last time out against Australia.
He told the press after the match "I am obviously a bit sad because I have the second yellow but I will support the team" and that support will be crucial with the South American side the clear underdogs here.
Centre-back Omar Alderete remains a doubt through injury after he limped off against the Socceroos on matchday three.
If he loses his race against time to be fit for this clash, Paraguay may shift from  three at the back formation to a flat four in defence to compensate.
There's some positive news, however, as Miguel Almiron returns from suspension after he received a red card against Turkey on matchday two.
Germany vs Paraguay Key Players
Florian Wirtz (Germany)
With two assists across his three 2026 World Cup matches so far for Germany, only a handful of players have managed more at this edition of the tournament than Florian Wirtz.
Due to that output, the Liverpool forward remains perhaps his team's most potent attacking threat, something referenced by the fact that since Nagelsmann took charge in October 2023, he's produced the most goal contributions of any player (21).
Dictating the play in advanced areas of the field, Wirtz's general on-the-ball ability and fantastic vision means that he remains a vital cog in the Germany set-up.
Julio Enciso (Paraguay)
Although he's yet to score for his country at the 2026 World Cup, Julio Enciso remains Paraguay's most dangerous player.
Assisting both of his nation's goals during the group stage of the competition, the 22-year-old additionally leads his team-mates for overall chances created with five, highlighting his excellent vision when in possession.
Next, he'll look to break his duck on the goalscoring front and will look to play a pivotal role in his side's potential upset in this clash.
