Horse Racing Tips: Murphy to make the difference on Khelstar

A quartet of race meetings are set to take place across Britain on Tuesday, two afternoon flat cards accompanied by two evening cards, one of which is over jumps. First off is Beverley at 14:15pm, closely followed by Ffos Las at 14:30pm, ahead of the evening action at Newbury (17:17pm) and Newton Abbot (17:35pm).

Among our Tuesday fancies is a runner for Charlie Johnston, who has been hitting the crossbar in recent weeks and who gets the assistance of five-time champion jockey Oisin Murphy for the first time.

14:45 Beverley - This Farh @ 11/4

Roaring Ralph bids for a sixth win this year in this 71/2f contest and Michael Dods' charge warrants obvious respect having avoided a penalty for last week's apprentice handicap victory.

However, I'm keen to take him on with Dave Loughnane's THIS FARH, who is enjoying a good season of his own and who seemed well suited by this track's stiff uphill finish when scoring over C&D at the end of last month.

Indeed, his other win this term came at Leicester, another track that places emphasis on stamina, and he's of major interest back here off a mark only 3lb above his course success.

17:27 Beverley - Jack Rabbit Slims @ 4/1

JACK RABBIT SLIMS has been working his way down the weights and the Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood gelding is fancied to claim an overdue first success.

The three-year-old is 11 starts without success, but he's a capable sort on his day, running to Racing Post Ratings of 65 when finishing second in a Carlisle maiden last year and again when filling the same spot in a seller over this C&D last month.

He's down a career-low official mark of 58 and could well be up to exploiting it, particularly if taking to the first-time combination of a tongue-tie and cheekpieces.

20:05 Newbury - Baileys Khelstar @ 6/4

The booking of Oisin Murphy for Charlie Johnston's BAILEYS KHELSTAR takes the eye, the six-year-old having been knocking at the door in similar staying handicaps this year.

The Cloth Of Stars gelding has won three times in a 17-race career, the last of those successes coming over two years ago at Ascot.

He missed all of last year through injury, but has returned in good heart, finding one too good in three of his last four outings, most recently behind James Owen's Sixpack, who followed up in fine style at Newmarket at the weekend.

He's run to Racing Post Ratings of 80 and 84 the last two outings, so should be more than capable of defying his current official rating of 78, particularly if Murphy ekes out any improvement.
