TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Meijer LPGA Classic debuted on the LPGA in 2014 and has always been staged at Blythefield Country Club.

Ten different players have won this event, but as yet, Canada’s Brooke Henderson is the only one to record multiple victories, regaining the title in 2019 after first winning in 2017.

Last five winners:

  • 2025

Winner: Carlota Ciganda (-16)

Runner-up: Hye-Jin Choi (-15)

  • 2024

Winner: Lilia Vu (-16, playoff)

Runners-up: Lexi Thompson, Grace Kim (-16)

  • 2023

Winner: Leona Maguire (-21)

Runner-up: Ariya Jutanugarn (-19)

  • 2022

Winner: Jennifer Kupcho (-18, playoff)

Runners-up: Nelly Korda, Leona Maguire (-18)

  • 2021

Winner: Nelly Korda (-25)

Runner-up: Leona Maguire (-23)

Having held a share of the lead from round two onwards, Carlota Ciganda secured her first LPGA title in nine years at the Meijer Classic in 2025, beating fellow long-time co-leader Hye-Jin Choi by one stroke. She returns to defend this week.

THE COURSE

Blythefield Country Club

  • Original architect / Year opened: William Langford & Theodore Moreau / 1929
  • Latest renovation: Chris Wilczynski completed an extensive renovation in 2020, restoring greens to their original size and shape, widening the fairways, removing trees to open up the playing lines, and repositioning bunkers into more strategic locations
  • Par / Yardage: Par 72 / 6,611 yards
  • Hole breakdown:
    • 5x par 3s (136-234 yards)
    • 8x par 4s (346-428 yards)
    • 5x par 5s (478-550 yards)
  • Course style: A compact parkland built on gently-rolling terrain. It begins in a densely tree-lined setting before opening up on the back nine, and features mild elevation changes throughout
  • Fairways:
    • The average-to-wide fairways are predominantly doglegged
    • Strategic bunkering pinches the landing areas and trees require players to position the ball smartly to avoid having approaches blocked out
    • Three-inch-thick Kentucky bluegrass rough offers added protection
  • Greens:
    • The small (4,500 sq. ft.), elevated greens are a poa annua/bentgrass mix
    • Deep greenside bunkers guard the perimeter of most
    • Potentially running at a speedy 12.5-13 on the Stimp, these subtly-breaking surfaces are the toughest aspect of play at this layout
  • Defences: With water in play on just one hole, it’s those ball-striking demands, especially into the evasive greens, that are the course’s primary defence
  • Average winning score: -18.7 (excludes the 2017 edition when the course had to be altered to a par 69 due to flooding)

Blythefield CC is a traditional course that can be tricky if firm but is fairly straightforward. With five par 5s, generally untaxing par 3s and a series of gettable par 4s, birdie opportunities are in ample supply.

That said, conditions can play their part here. Dry, breezy conditions resulted in the second-toughest renewal of the event two years ago, won in 16-under-par, whilst rain made for another slightly more attritional contest in 2025, equalling that -16 total from the previous year.

THE WEATHER

Thunderstorms are forecast to dump more than 50mm of rain on Michigan on Wednesday. This will result in a super-soft course, and preferred lies will likely be in play.

That threat of rain lingers throughout the tournament, whilst a stiff breeze of 11-13mph, accompanied by gusts up to 27mph, could add an extra layer of difficulty to proceedings.

KEY STATS

SG: Approach / Greens-in-Regulation (GIR)

Par 5 Scoring

With five par 5s offering the best scoring chances at Blythefield CC, capitalising on these holes should prove crucial in the race for the title.

CORRELATING EVENTS (COURSES)

Portland Classic (Columbia Edgewater Country Club)

Columbia Edgewater CC is an undulating, tree-lined course with small, fast poa annua greens. It provides a comparable challenge off the tee and, as an uncomplicated test if conditions allow, scoring is often low.

Notable correlating form:

  • Brooke Henderson: Meijer (1st, 1st) / Portland (1st, 1st)
  • Carlota Ciganda: Meijer (1st, 2nd) / Portland (3rd)

  • Georgia Hall: Meijer (6th) / Portland (1st, 2nd)
  • Aki Iwai: Meijer (7th) / Portland (1st)

ShopRite LPGA (Seaview – Bay Course)

Seaview’s Bay Course poses similar questions from a ball-striking perspective. Alongside its elevated bentgrass/poa greens and penal bluegrass rough, it has much in common with Blythefield CC.

Notable correlating form:

  • Brooke Henderson: Meijer (1st, 1st) / ShopRite (1st, 2nd)
  • Lexi Thompson: Meijer (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd) / ShopRite (1st)
  • Jennifer Kupcho: Meijer (1st) / ShopRite (1st, 2nd)
  • Sei Young Kim: Meijer (1st) / ShopRite (3rd, 4th)
  • Gerina Mendoza: Meijer (2nd) / ShopRite (3rd, 5th, 5th)

  • Narin An: Meijer (5th) / ShopRite (6th)
  • Annie Park: Meijer (7th) / ShopRite (1st)
  • Brittany Lincicome: Meijer (7th) / ShopRite (1st)

Dana Open (Highland Meadows Golf Club)

Now the host of the Greater Toledo Classic on the Epson Tour, Highland Meadows GC is another course that gives away plenty of birdies. As a classic tree-lined course with average-width fairways, small poa/bentgrass greens and strong bunkering, it can act as a helpful comp this week.

Notable correlating form:

  • Sei Young Kim: Meijer (1st) / Dana Open (1st)
  • So Yeon Ryu: Meijer (1st) / Dana Open (1st)
  • Lexi Thompson: Meijer (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd) / Dana Open (2nd, 2nd)
  • Mirim Lee: Meijer (1st) / Dana Open (2nd)
  • Jennifer Kupcho: Meijer (1st) / Dana Open (5th, 9th)
  • Nasa Hataoka: Meijer (2nd) / Dana Open (1st)
  • Caroline Masson: Meijer (2nd) / Dana Open (3rd, 5th, 5th)
  • Gerina Mendoza: Meijer (2nd) / Dana Open (3rd)
  • Amy Yang: Meijer (3rd, 5th) / Dana Open (5th)
  • Xiyu Lin: Meijer (3rd) / Dana Open (4th, 7th)
  • Jacqui Concolino: Meijer (4th) / Dana Open (5th, 5th)
  • Azahara Munoz: Meijer (4th) / Dana Open (8th, 9th)
  • Allisen Corpuz: Meijer (5th) / Dana Open (2nd)
  • Hyo Joo Kim: Meijer (5th, 7th) / Dana Open (4th)
  • Jasmine Suwannapura: Meijer (6th) / Dana Open (1st)

2018-2022 LA Open / 2023-2024 JM Eagle LA Championship (Wilshire Country Club)

The gently-rolling Wilshire Country Club, with its generous fairways and diminutive, elevated poa annua greens – which are heavily bunkered – shares many characteristics with Blythefield CC.

Notable correlating form:

  • Brooke Henderson: Meijer (1st, 1st) / Wilshire (1st)
  • Sei Young Kim: Meijer (1st) / Wilshire (2nd)
  • So Yeon Ryu: Meijer (1st) / Wilshire (4th, 5th)
  • Nasa Hataoka: Meijer (2nd) / Wilshire (1st)
  • Hye-Jin Choi: Meijer (2nd) / Wilshire (6th)
  • Xiyu Lin: Meijer (3rd) / Wilshire (2nd)
  • Amy Yang: Meijer (3rd, 5th) / Wilshire (5th)
  • Madelene Sagstrom: Meijer (4th) / Wilshire (3rd)
  • Annie Park: Meijer (7th) / Wilshire (3rd)
  • Aditi Ashok: Meijer (8th) / Wilshire (2nd)

2022 Palos Verdes Championship / 2023 LA Open / 2024 Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship (Palos Verdes Golf Club)

Although Palos Verdes is a more dramatically sloping layout, its tiny poa annua greens, generous fairways and frequent elevation changes make it a worthwhile comparison to our Meijer Classic host.

Notable correlating form:

  • Nelly Korda: Meijer (1st) / Palos Verdes (1st)
  • Carlota Ciganda: Meijer (1st, 2nd) / Palos Verdes (5th)
  • Hyo Joo Kim: Meijer (5th, 7th) / Palos Verdes (3rd)
  • Georgia Hall: Meijer (6th) / Palos Verdes (2nd)
  • Jasmine Suwannapura: Meijer (6th) / Palos Verdes (5th)
  • Annie Park: Meijer (7th) / Palos Verdes (5th)

2026 Fortinet Founders Cup (Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club)

I’ll finish with 2026’s Founders Cup venue Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club. This attractive, hilly parkland has wide fairways that require clever positioning of the ball, while the small, elevated greens are similarly swift.

Notable correlating form:

  • Sei Young Kim: Meijer (1st) / Sharon Heights (3rd)
  • Nasa Hataoka: Meijer (2nd) / Sharon Heights (5th)
  • Hyo Joo Kim: Meijer (5th, 7th) / Sharon Heights (1st)

THE FIELD

This week’s field includes five of the world’s top-10, with No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul joined by Hannah Green (No. 6), Lottie Woad (No. 7), Miyu Yamashita (No. 8) and Minjee Lee (No. 9).

Carlota Ciganda is our reigning champion and one of six former winners in attendance, alongside Lilia Vu (2024), Leona Maguire (2023), Jennifer Kupcho (2022), Brooke Henderson (2019, 2017), and Lexi Thompson (2015).

The No. 1-ranked amateur in the world, Kiara Romero, tees it up after finishing 6th at the U.S. Women’s Open a fortnight ago. Meanwhile, both of last week’s winning Dow Championship team, Gina Kim and Yana Wilson, are back in action and will be hoping to build on that success in a solo capacity.

SELECTIONS

Market leaders: Jeeno Thitikul 11/2, Hannah Green 12/1, Miyu Yamashita 14/1, Minjee Lee 16/1, Lottie Woad 18/1, Allisen Corpuz 20/1

1.5 pts Aki Iwai each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 28/1

Having enjoyed an encouraging spin around Blythefield CC in 2025, I’m counting on Aki Iwai building on that this week. She won at the correlating Portland Classic last year and, with her approach play and short game standing out, she’s well placed to contend in Michigan.

Although Iwai isn’t quite lighting up the LPGA in the incredibly impressive way she did in her rookie season, she’s still performed strongly in 2026. A 5th-place finish at the Aramco Championship rates as her standout effort and she’s recorded six top-25s from 13 appearances overall, missing just two cuts.

Prior to last week’s Dow Championship, where she finished 7th alongside twin sister Chizzy, she hit the ball well at the U.S. Open but could only muster a 45th-place finish due to her putting. This is the one area of weakness for a player who ranks 21st from tee-to-green, though sitting 27th in SG: Approach and 37th in SG: ATG, she has a suitable profile to tackle this layout.

That was clear to see 12 months ago, as Iwai bookended her week with rounds of 66 and 65 to finish 7th on debut, just four shots behind the winner Ciganda. Her victory on the poa surfaces at the Portland Classic is a bonus, and if her tee-to-green game is as sound as it looked at Riviera, I expect another bold showing from the Japanese youngster.

1 pt In Gee Chun each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 50/1

After enduring a difficult couple of seasons, three-time major winner In Gee Chun has looked more like her old self in 2026. She’s twice gone close in this event and, currently doing all the right things in all the right areas, she can contend once again.

Chun produced just one top-10 finish across the three previous seasons combined but has already recorded two this campaign. The first came on her second appearance of the year, as she finished 5th at the Ford Championship, whilst she arrives here after an excellent 4th-place finish at the U.S. Women’s Open.

It’s been somewhat of a mixed bag outside of those efforts, though with three further top-30 finishes, she’s regularly hitting the top section of the leaderboard.

While she did everything to a decent level at Riviera, it was her short game that shone, ranking 2nd in SG: ATG, 6th in SG: Putting and 8th in scrambling. Indeed, it’s around the greens where she’s looked at her best season-long, ranking 9th. She’s also 34th in GIR, 42nd in SG: Approach, and as the fourth-best par-5 scorer on tour, her skillset matches up perfectly to the challenge that awaits in Michigan.

Chun has twice finished 3rd at Blythefield CC – 2016 and 2021 – and, having occupied the runner-up spot at the Portland Classic, there is plenty of evidence that this is a test that suits.

1 pt Grace Kim each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 50/1

Aussie Grace Kim has been consistent this season without ever really getting into contention. However, she did finish 2nd here just two years ago, and as a strong iron player who is neat and tidy around the greens, I’m backing her to go one better this week.

Eight LPGA appearances in 2026 have resulted in only one missed cut from Kim, which came at our first major of the year, the Chevron Championship. She has finished 28th or better in four of her last five outings and heads to Blythefield CC following a promising 22nd-place finish at the U.S. Women’s Open.

Her tee-to-green display caught the eye there, ranking 12th, and she’s been strong in this area throughout the campaign, sitting 23rd overall. She’s 24th in SG: Approach, 58th in SG: ATG, and while the putter is unreliable, she did win her maiden major title on a bentgrass/poa mix at last year’s Evian Championship.

Kim has teed it up in the Meijer Classic on three occasions, finding a top-25 each time, finishing 20th in 2023, 2nd in 2024 and 24th in 2025. Two top-10s at the Portland Classic strengthen her case, and if she can just find a little improvement on the greens, she has every chance of contending.

0.75 pts Amanda Doherty each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 110/1

Amanda Doherty has struggled to find her feet on the LPGA since debuting on the tour back in 2022. That said, there are signs that she’s finally starting to feel comfortable at this level. With few players hitting the ball as strongly at present, she can secure a breakthrough title on Sunday.

Doherty has spent 2026 dividing her time between the LPGA and the Epson Tour, and largely failed to impress early doors, missing four of her first five cuts. She stopped the rot when finishing 20th at the Riviera Maya Open three starts ago and has maintained a high standard since, backing that up with a career-best 5th-place finish at the Kroger Queen City Championship, and a 14th-place finish on her latest outing at the ShopRite LPGA.

The American has excelled most with the driver throughout her pro career, though she has been equally efficient with her irons in 2026, ranking 13th in SG: Approach. She’s also scrambled well in recent weeks and as a typically potent par-5 scorer, she has an appealing set of stats for this challenge.

Doherty missed her first two cuts in this event but was much more encouraging in 2025, entering the weekend in 5th place before eventually finishing 24th. She’s playing better now, and with her chances strengthened by a runner-up finish in last year’s Greater Toledo Classic at Highland Meadows GC, I’m keen to have this improving player on side.

0.75 pts Narin An each-way (1/4 - 5 places) @ 125/1

I put Narin An up on her last start at the Kroger Queen City Championship and despite finishing 54th, signs were promising. She’s been superb from tee-to-green in 2026 and, possessing a strong record at Blythefield CC, I’m happy to give her another shot.

An missed the cut on her seasonal reappearance at the Founders Cup, though has only missed another one in her next five starts. Back-to-back finishes of 29th at the Ford Championship and 24th at the JM Eagle LA Championship followed and, prior to that 54th at the Kroger Queen, she was 25th at the Mizuho Americas Open.

She’s 13th in SG: Tee-to-Green for 2026 and is thriving with her short game, ranking 12th in SG: ATG. In addition, her iron play has also been solid, sitting 8th in GIR and 47th in SG: Approach.

Before missing the cut at last year’s Meijer Classic, An hit the top 25 in each of her first three starts at the event, finishing 24th in 2022, 20th in 2023 and 5th in 2024. She’s been 2nd and 3rd in Portland, 6th at the ShopRite LPGA and, with her long game in considerably better shape than 12 months ago, I expect another top-class effort in Michigan.
