Horse Racing Odds

Musselburgh 13:40 - Wee Mary @ 9/4

Jim Goldie trains, and one of his proteges, 3lb claimer Amie Waugh, is in the saddle.

Wee Mary is a four-year-old filly out of a mare by the super-speedy Dandy Man, who spent much of his career trying to win a Nunthorpe (with me supporting him every time). Oh well ...

Smashing run last time at Carlisle just eight days ago (same 5f trip as today), going under by a length, and turns out swiftly on the same mark, 48.

Yes please.

Musselburgh 14:15 - Furturra @ 2/1

I tipped up and backed this two-year-old gelding a week ago in a Chester seller worth a tidy sum (as is this) and Furturra ran on without ever looking like getting to the principals, over 6f.

This is a drop down to 5f, which I'm hoping will be inspired, because Chester's not everyone's cup of tea, especially for young, inexperienced horses. This straightforward track should allow him to stride out and as another reappearing quickly I'm hoping it's a plan that's about to come to glorious fruition.

Tim Easterby, who's forgotten more about the game than most of us will ever grasp, trains, and David Allan has the riding assignment.

Musselburgh 14:50 - Black Storm @ 11/2

Class 4 handicap over 7f, for older horses, and a selection trained by Borders handler Katie Scott.

Black Storm is a five-year-old gelding by July Cup winner Ten Sovereigns. One win only in 14 attempts, but after wind surgery and a 213-day break he's put two really solid performances together in April and then 19 days ago; and though stepping up a notch in class I think he could be ready to strike.

Greg Fairley, for the first time, has the leg up, and the assessor has dropped him a pound from last time (beaten 3.75l). Might represent a bit of value, too.

Musselburgh 15:28 - Magic Basma @ 11/4

A Listed fillies' heat, over 7f, and a lovely prize of around £34k.

Our selection is the four-year-old Expert Eye offspring Magic Basma. She has shown an enhanced level of form since reappearing for the 2026 season and in similar affairs to this (but at 6f) at first Newmarket then Haydock 15 days ago, she's finished fourth and second respectively; and last time in the North-West it was 3l back to the third.

The brilliant Kevin Ryan trains, in Hambleton, North Yorkshire, and Tom Eaves is in the plate. Connections got Ryan Moore to ride her at Haydock - methinks they must think the world of her, and I'm sure that owner Jaber Abdullah would confirm the fact.

She's making the step up to 7f, but her sire won a Breeders' Cup mile and I could see her being switched off and come with a telling, late rattle to land the spoils.

If all four of our selections won, today's notional 25p each way Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £300 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon our selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
