Football Bet of the Day: Thistle to carry on their impeccable home form

Victory over Raith Rovers on Tuesday has moved Partick Thistle to within five points of leaders St Johnstone in the Scottish Championship. The Jags face a quick turnaround as they welcome Ross County to Firhill on Friday (19:45 GMT).

Thistle have won 10 of their 15 home games in this competition so far and they are 8/11 to come out on top.

The draw is on offer at 12/5, which may be an alluring price considering the hosts have had three stalemates across their previous five matches in the Scottish Championship.

Ross County were victorious in the most recent meeting and they are 16/5 to spring another surprise on Friday.

At least one team has failed to score in the previous three head-to-heads and BTTS - No is marketed at 4/5 on this occasion.

With six games left to play, Partick Thistle cannot afford any mistakes as five points is the deficit they need to make up if they wish to go up as champions. They will be expected to take all three points against struggling Ross County and I believe the hosts are worth backing to prevail.

To improve the value of the selection, I have gone for Thistle and over 1.5 goals at 23/20, which has an implied probability of 46.5%. The Jags boast the best home record in the division and they are yet to be defeated at Firhill in this league campaign (W10 D5).

It is hard to see that record under threat against the side ranked second-bottom in the standings. The visitors have failed to win any of their past four matches in the second tier.

The Staggies have managed just two wins from 15 outings on their travels this term, with their previous trip to Firhill ending in a 1-0 defeat. I think we can expect an improvement in the number of goals this time around because the hosts are the second-highest scorers in the league with 44.

Goals have been hard to come by at home in the Scottish Championship in the last month but Thistle have continued to showcase their attacking talent on the road - with two scored at Raith Rovers last time out.

The Thistle players and staff will be fired up for this final stretch of fixtures and they need to be ruthless against a team who are at the opposite end of the table. Their goal difference is inferior in comparison to St Johnstone, so there is improvement needed on that front.

The last encounter with County at Firhill may have ended 1-0 but the two visits to Victoria Park this season have produced at least two goals.

This threshold has now been reached in four of the past five competitive meetings and I am anticipating this trend will continue on Friday. If that's not enough to convince you, over 1.5 goals has landed in three of the Staggies' last five matches in the league.
