Toulouse vs Wigan Warriors Prediction: Smith can help leaders to cover handicap

An exciting match up in the south of France on Saturday sees new boys Toulouse look to continue their fine return to the Betfred Super League with a big performance against early pacesetters Wigan. (Sky Sports+ 17:00)
The Warriors are already looking ominous as they bid to regain the title they relinquished to Hull KR in October, winning three games so far at a canter and are big favourites to triumph against at the Stade Ernest Wallon.
Here are my Toulouse vs Wigan predictions, as well as full team news and match odds from Betfred.

Team News
The big Wigan news this week was a setback for star full-back Jai Field - the star of our anytime tryscorer predictions most weeks too. The Australian has made a stunning start to the season with two tries in each of the last two victories over Leigh and Hull FC. Never has our last week headline "Two-try Jai to cross again in Warriors win" been more on the money!
But Wigan will now have to do without Field after he was hospitalised with appendicitis which will keep him sidelined for the next four to six weeks following surgery on Monday.
That's a cruel blow to Wigan and boss Matty Peet who is now forced into a reshuffle. The obvious move would be to switch his other superstar Bevan French to full-back and bring Jack Farrimond into the halves alongside the ever reliable Harry Smith. Youngster Noah Hodkinson can play there too, while another option in the coming weeks would be to move winger Zach Eckersley there once Abbas Miski is fit to return on the wing.
As for this week though, I would expect it to be French, and he is extremely dangerous with the flexibility of attacking positions in that role.
Peet makes three changes in total, with Field dropping out along with youngsters Dayon Sambou and Lukas Mason. The three to come in are Hodkinson, Nathan Lowe and Kian McDermott.
Toulouse are without their on-loan Wigan prop Tyler Dupree through injury, while Romeo Tropis returns to the fold after missing last week's defeat at Bradford because of concussion protocols.
Toulouse vs Wigan Warriors Odds
Toulouse, to no one's surprise are a big outsider here at 13/2 with the Warriors 1/11 on.
The away side are given a 22 point start on the three-way handicap.
Handicap 3-way Wigan -22 @ 20/21
The two teams I have been banging on about since round one are Wigan and Leeds. And thankfully my instincts have been pretty good as those two are the top two teams in the Betfred Super League and already look head and shoulders above the rest. (whisper that around Hull KR fans as we all know Rovers will hit their straps pretty soon too...)
The loss of Field would hit most teams like a hammer, but with French in the team I think the Warriors will just carry on as they are. The conveyor belt of young talent remains as strong as ever, and the next cab off the rank should slot in pretty seamlessly.
The manner of Wigan's wins have been frightening. Castleford actually had a good go at them in round one, but in the last two games against Hull FC and Leigh the Warriors have scored 88 points and conceded just 6. Scary.
Toulouse came unstuck on the heavy pitch at Odsal last week having opened up with back-to-back wins over Cas and Wakefield. They can be tough to beat at home but I just fancy Wigan will be absolutely fine here.
The Warriors want their trophies back, and will approach every single game this year with that mentality. This will be another win ticked off I feel, and I have Wigan to cover a 22-point handicap too.

Harry Smith anytime tryscorer @ 11/4
In the absence of Field this week, we need to find a new banker. The Aussie has come good in each of the last two weeks for us in the anytime scorer market, but his enforced absence means we will have to be a little more creative.
The wise money is on Bevan French to assume the match-winner mantle, and I expect him to cross this week. French though is 8/15 with Betfred so I will seek out a bit more value.
I have been impressed with the early-season form of England half-back Harry Smith He also scored two tries last week and is an attractive 11/4 to score again in the south of France. With no Field, someone will have to step up into that chief supporter role, and I expect more opportunities for both French and Smith.
If Toulouse are to have joy then I am looking once again at full-back Olly Ashall-Bott (6/4) and Paul Ulberg (7/4) while another Wigan star I always fancy to score is forward Junior Nsemba, who could be worth a look at 6/4.
