Football bet of the day

We’ve got plenty of football action coming our way on Tuesday night, with Uefa Champions League and EFL action coming to our screens.

Newcastle United are set to cruise through their European test vs Qarabag, but once again I’ve turned my attention to the Championship where there’s a key game taking place at The Hawthorns.

Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, February 24

  • Charlton Athletic to keep a clean sheet vs West Brom @ 13/5

West Brom vs Charlton Odds

West Bromwich Albion are in serious relegation trouble this season, and they don’t seem to be improving under Eric Ramsay. He’s now taken charge of eight games at the Baggies and he’s failed to win a single one, drawing three and losing five.

When West Brom appointed the former Minnesota United manager to take over from Ryan Mason, they hoped for a change in the style of play and more fruitful results on paper. Instead of a turnaround with this squad, results have got significantly worse and now they find themselves on the brink of the relegation zone, just one point above the bottom three.

It means Tuesday’s game at home to Charlton Athletic (19:45 GMT, Sky Sports+) is absolutely crucial in their bid for survival. The Addicks are currently on 40 points and have only lost one of their last five games, with a win here absolutely massive for their survival target of 50 points.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • West Brom have had one shot on target in each of their last two leagues
  • West Brom have failed to score in three league games in a row
  • Charlton have kept three clean sheets in their last five

Nathan Jones is superb at setting his team up correctly and since getting beaten 4-0 at Millwall they have kept three clean sheets out of five. This brings me to Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day. I think Charlton are well-placed to keep another clean sheet after their January additions, especially against a West Brom side that looks toothless under Ramsay.

The Baggies mustered just one shot on target against Coventry City at home, while they had the same number across 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw at Birmingham. In the 0-0 stalemate against Stoke they had two on target with an xG of just 0.38.

Ramsay switched back to a 4-4-2 to try and make his team more solid and although that helped with back-to-back draws, they have completely killed their attacking spark - not that they showed much of that in his first few games in charge either.

I think this is judgement day for West Brom and Ramsay. I don’t think they can risk leaving him in charge any longer if they lose on Tuesday night, and I think Charlton are a really tough defensive opponent to come up against. An Addicks clean sheet is a big price given West Brom’s recent attacking struggles.
