Lucky 15 Tips: Simply superb Saturday ITV action from Kempton

The first five from Kempton's seven-race programme on Saturday are being covered LIVE by ITV; ideal material then for our Lucky 15 tips. 13:10 - Royal Infantry @ 13/2

A very respectable handicap hurdle kicks us off, and though I fear my selection might have more than enough weight on his back I still can't escape his persuasive claims - that's my view at least.

Dan and Harry Skelton field Royal Infantry, a gelded seven-year-old son of Irish Derby winner Soldier Of Fortune. He's four-from-12 all told, and is in prime order right now.

Today represents a slight class drop as the last couple he's contested have been Class 2 heats, and after really fluffing his lines at Cheltenham in December he ran very well when last seen 36 days ago at Windsor, beaten less than 5l to Potters Charm in a £52k-to-the-winner showdown.

He's only up a pound for that and Windsor's a quirky old circuit. Kempton's flat acreage could be ideal for his stalking, stealthy late-running racing style and at the price I can see as I'm writing you've got to think seriously about the each-way possibilities, too.

A red-hot contest to get the ball rolling.

13:45 - Precious Man @ 8/11

A bit short this one but another from the Alcester yard of Dan Skelton, with brother Harry on top.

Precious Man is a four-year-old gelding by French Derby winner Almanzor and the Gallic-bred joined Dan in June last year, after two fine performances at Auteuil (first, and a second) in conditions hurdles.

He debuted for the yard at Cheltenham in November, which in itself is quite revealing, in a Triumph Hurdle trial and was beaten 3.75l losing both front shoes in the process and fading a little late on. That came after a break of some 172 days, and he was booked in for a wind op just four days later.

Last time we saw him, on his second start for new connections 42 days ago, he dotted up on this course in a juvenile hurdle by over 4l, and the second and third have both won since.

He might just be quite smart. He could just be very smart ...

15:00 - Locked And Loaded @ 11/1

We're 1/5 the odds, 4 places each-way in this lively £45k-to-the-winner novices' hurdle, and I'd imagine that's the way lots of folks could lean.

Emma Lavelle trains our selection Locked And Loaded, and the brilliant Harry Cobden has the riding assignment. Did you see the ride Harry gave JP's Kom Tu Voudras at Huntingdon on Thursday? Sympathetic poetry. Horse would hardly have known he'd had a race. What a consummate artist.

Anyway, Emma's six-year-old gelding has won one of his three hurdle starts, last time out in fact, 40 days ago at Hereford. This is of course a big step forward but with Cobden renewing the partnership, and that victory achieved readily and with a personal best, he's no forlorn hope in my eyes.

On an afternoon full of them, it's another terrific contest to savour.

15:35 - Karate Dori @ 5/1

Please see above re each-way suggestion! It's another 4 places affair, and this is an ultra-competitive 3m handicap chase worth around £85k to the winner.

Our hopes focus upon Sam Thomas' Katate Dori, an eight-year-old gelding owned by great stable patron Dai Walters (Walters Plant Hire). He's four-from-18 all told, which includes three wins over the larger obstacles.

One of those successes was here on this course last February in this very race, and he absolutely hosed up by 15l under Gavin Sheehan, off a mark of 125. This is his fourth spin since returning for the season in November, and you'd imagine he'll be cherry-ripe for this follow-up bid.

When last seen on New Year's day at Cheltenham he missed out by half-a-length at just in excess of this trip, and off 136 today he looks sure to run to something like that and potentially even more.

Stable jockey Dylan Johnston has won on two of his last four rides before taking Friday's Exeter results into account, so whatever happens in Devon he's in great nick.
