Football Bet of the Day: The wheels have come off Walsall

We’ve got several Champions League games coming our way on Wednesday night, but for our Football Bet of the Day I’m heading down to League 2 for a game between two promotion hopefuls.
Grimsby Town take on Walsall (19:45 GMT), and I think the home side should fancy their chances…
Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, February 18
- Grimsby Town to win to nil vs Walsall @ 15/8

Grimsby boss David Artell saw his side narrowly lose to Wolves in the FA Cup at the weekend, but he should be emboldened by the performances and the recents showings he has seen from his side.
The Mariners have gone unbeaten in their last nine League 2 matches, carrying them up to 10th in the table and at the time of writing, they are just two points off the play-off places. It’s been a remarkable run of form, and importantly for our Football Bet of the Day, six of their last eight games in League 2 have been wins to nil.
It feels like a club that can push for promotion this season and having conceded 32 goals in 30 league games this term - their defence can keep them competitive in most games. I think that this opponent in the form of Walsall also plays into their hands given what we have seen from the Sadler’s recently.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Grimsby are unbeaten in their last nine league games
- Walsall have won one in their last 10
We all know how their form drastically dropped off in the second half of last season, as Mat Sadler’s men blew a massive lead at the top of the table to finish fourth before losing to AFC Wimbledon at Wembley. Their fans will be hoping something similar isn’t unfolding this term - but that already looks to be the case.
Walsall were top of the league on Boxing Day, but just one win in 10 has seen them plummet down to ninth, and now even a play-off place looks unlikely. It caused some sections of the fanbase to ask for the manager to go, after the recent 3-1 home defeat to Barnet.
Things aren’t going well then for Walsall, and they look to be struggling going forward as well, having failed to score three times in their last five outings. I think Grimsby are a great price to not only win this game, but keep a clean sheet in the process - so that is my Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday.
