Lucky 15 Tips: Chelmsford is Hector’s House on Thursday

For Thursday's Lucky 15 tips we're heading to Chelmsford, and their seven-race card on the Polytrack that kicks in at 17:00. Hollie Doyle and Hector Crouch look set for exciting evenings with some good rides booked, and I'm looking forward to it immensely.

18:00 - Poetic Jack @ 11/4
One of our best sprint trainers, Robert Cowell, handles this six-year-old Peace Envoy gelding from his Newmarket base.
Three weeks ago Poetic Jack ran in just such a contest, here, over the 6f, and was only collared late in the piece. Less than a length was the distance, and after racing prominently from the ten box he just began to wilt in the final 100 yards.
Drawn in five here, and benefitting from what was his first run for 70 days, he can potentially hold on tonight if another bold show from the front is on the cards.
The excellent Sean Levey, who has ridden the horse before, gets the riding assignment.
18:30 - Stanley Spencer @ 11/4
This five-year-old Iffraaj gelding, four-from-20 lifetime, gets the brilliant Hector Crouch on top as usual (24% strike-rate over the last 14 days), and can score for another Newmarket handler, James Tate.
Stanley Spencer has run here once before, a fine placed effort in August 2024, and now rated 83 is enjoying the best form period of his life. Nicely drawn in three, he's another who often races prominently and he looks to me to be the most likely of the fancied runners to perform to, or very near, his mark.
Tate himself is ticking over nicely at 20% and there's every chance that can be improved upon this evening. When last seen four weeks ago the selection faded late in a warm £16k affair at Southwell but was drawn 11; and that track takes a bit of getting in my book.
19:30 - Rogue Justice @ 5/2
I'm with Hector Crouch once again, this time aboard Jack Jones' four-year-old gelding Rogue Justice.
Just the five runs so far and happy to report that the last of them (admittedly 145 days ago) was easily the best, stepping up to 1m 6f from 1m 2f and 1m 4f. That was at Wolverhampton, and the selection finished second, beaten 3l.
He's only up a pound for that and gets to travel 2m this evening, which could potentially unlock even more improvement. Ironically he's by a sprinter, Calyx, and the dam, herself by speedster Kodiac, only went about a mile; so Rogue Justice is a bit of a puzzle in that regard.
Jack Jones is in fine fettle with two scorers from his last eight runners, and booking Crouch for the first time is seen as a definite plus.
20:00 - Mandana @ 9/2
That just leaves the lucky last, and it's fingers and toes crossed-time that this is to be a red-letter day/night for G1-winning ace Hector Crouch.
Here he partners Mandana, a four-year-old Persian King filly, for yet another HQ trainer in James Owen. A consistent, invariably competitive filly, with just one win to date from 17 starts; a Lingfield maiden in April 2025 when trained by Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole.
She joined James in December last, and in three runs for new connections has very much been there and thereabouts. She gets a little further than this mile trip which is always useful, and could be ready to score.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £320 for a £7.50 total stake. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can) - then go for it!
