Serrano vs Tellez Predictions: The future Hall of Famer’s homecoming

WBA and WBO featherweight queen Amanda Serrano puts her championships on the line this Saturday, January 3 against Reina Tellez. The title 10-rounder takes place at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Serrano headlines in her home nation with the event screened live worldwide on DAZN.
Read on for my Serrano vs Reina Tellez predictions.
Serrano vs Tellez Odds
The unified champ comes in as a huge favourite at 1/20. Tellez is an 11/1 outsider, but the American is undefeated. The draw is priced at 18/1. The fighters have had one draw apiece in their careers to date.
Serrano vs Tellez Fight Preview
Not many fighters do something for the first time in their 53rd professional bout. But Serrano will step into the ring for the first time riding a two-fight losing streak. That brace of defeats came at the hands of the same women who dealt Serrano her third loss; Katie Taylor.
After three scintillating, legendary battles the series went to Taylor 3-0 by virtue of a majority decision win last July. Your faithful servant found the result ironic. I viewed their second bout, a unanimous decision in Katie’s favour, as a closer contest than the third. What is undeniable is that their trio of tremendous pugilism could have gone either way. Tyson Fury-Derek Chisora, this trilogy was not.
At the age of 37, Serrano has nothing left to prove. She is the first Puerto Rican boxer to hold an undisputed championship in the four-belt era. The only female seven-weight world champion in history. Forget genders, only Manny Pacquiao has held titles in more weight classes than Serrano.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
The Puerto Rican has competed in 21 world title fights, held 12 separate major world championships and in 2023 she became the first woman to contest and win a world title fight over the 12, three-minute round distance.
With a legacy as secure as Serrano’s, why carry on fighting? Perhaps it is the desire not to let the public’s abiding memory of her be two losses to Taylor. Maybe the chance to headline in her native Puerto Rico for the first time in four years is the ambition. Either way, a chance to see a living legend of the sport ply her trade should be cherished.
Tellez will learn a lot from the experience. At the age of just 22 and in her first 10-round fight, this chance may have come a little too soon for the resident of Texas. Were this a Hollywood picture, a passing of the torch might be in the offing. But the challenger does not seem equipped to pull off the upset at this stage of her career.
One could argue that is exactly the point. That after two losses, Serrano is topping the bill in her home country more as a celebration and a recalibration. Get back in the win column in front of a friendly audience before deciding on her next move.
Serrano has hinted 2026 might be her last year in the ring. But the 37-year-old icon has also said she would like to accumulate 50 victories before she moves on, which would mean three more wins. Serrano also wants to beat the female knockout record of 32 stoppages, held by Christy Martin. That would require two more KOs. So perhaps the ambitious Amanda will be around for a little while yet. There is always more history to be made.

Serrano vs Tellez Prediction
I think this fight will be a straightforward task for Serrano. Tellez may well be a future world champion and spending time in the ring with a master of the craft will only aid that mission. But it is mission impossible on this night. Serrano to win at 1/20.
