SPOTY Odds 2025: Rory McIlroy odds-on to be named Sports Personality of the Year

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025 awards will take place on Thursday, December 18 and with a shortlist of six available, we now have our favourite to lift the trophy. 

That man is Rory McIlroy after a sensational year, but below you can find the SPOTY Odds 2025, with voting set to take place during the show on BBC One.

Rory McIlory @ 4/7 

Rory McIlroy has had a simply sensational 2025. After years of missing out by narrow margins, he became only the sixth man in history to win a Grand Slam of all four major championships as he scooped victory in dramatic fashion at the Masters.

He earned his first major victory since 2014 as he beat Justin Rose in a play-off at Augusta to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Then, at the Ryder Cup, he contributed three-and-a-half points in a hostile atmosphere to help Europe secure their first win in the USA since 2012. 

Other wins at the Players Championship, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Irish Open have strengthened his claim, before he topped off a stunning year with his seventh Race to Dubai title. The rightful favourite.

Lando Norris @ 10/3

Lando Norris is also a key contender on Thursday night, having scooped his very first Formula One Drivers’ Championship. In the closest season in 15 years, he edged out both Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri in Abu Dhabi as he finished third, winning the title by just two points. 

McLaren won their first Drivers’ Championship since 2008 and given Norris overhauled a 34-point gap to his teammate after 15 races, he deserves massive credit. Should feature in the top three as he ended Verstappen’s F1 dominance.

Chloe Kelly @ 9/2

Chloe Kelly has been pretty special this year. At the start of the year she wasn’t assured of her place in the starting XI for club nor country. However, a shock Champions League win with Arsenal boosted her confidence and despite not starting a game at the Euros, she was the key figure off the bench. 

Kelly scored the decisive penalty as the Lionesses retained their crown, while she also scored the winner in the semi-final and converted a penalty in the quarter-final shootout. England’s player for the big occasion has won the two biggest prizes in world football this year - and finished fifth in the Ballon d’Or. Not bad at all. 

Luke Littler @ 25/1 

I think Littler is unfortunately limited by the timing of the World Championship. It’s on again now, but back in January, he became the youngest-ever world champion with a dominant win over MVG in the final. 

He then won the Betfred World Matchplay to give him the PDC Triple Crown - having also secured the Premier League - while he also won the Grand Slam of Darts in November to become world number one for the first time.

He can’t do any more right now in darts, and represents good value - but maybe the timing of this current World Championship will backfire on him. 

Ellie Kildunne @ 33/1

England cantered to win the Women’s Rugby World Cup on home soil this summer and Ellie Kildunne, the star full-back, played a key role in their success. She actually missed the quarter-final through concussion but returned to score twice in the semi-final success over France, before scoring the best try of the final in the win over Canada. 

England also won a Grand Slam as they retained the Six Nations, while 14 more tries for her club side Harlequins strengthened her season. A worthy representative from the Red Roses. 

Hannah Hampton @ 100/1

Hannah Hampton won the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards and was heroic for England at the Euros - saving two penalties in the final shootout. She was named Player of the Match in that one and was named in the Team of the Tournament having saved two more penalties in the quarters. 

She won the WSL’s Golden Glove with 13 clean sheets, and was a key figure of Chelsea’s domestic treble - although they did fail to win the Champions League. A fantastic season, but her votes may potentially be split with Kelly.
