Lucky 15 Tips: Nine-race midweek merriment at Lingers

In our ITV piece on Saturday I think I tipped up just about every second-placed horse - and in the interests of full disclosure seem to have carried that modest form into this week.
Only fair to balance things against the times, mercifully far from rare, when we're trumpeting news of good winners for the columns. Unbowed, we're visiting Lingfield's Polytrack gathering on Wednesday for a nine-race spectacular that kicks in at 11:05. The racing looks competitive, with plenty of good yards involved. Enjoy, and as always, have fun.
Lucky 15 tips - Wednesday, December 17
- 11:35 - Mc Loven @ 4/1
- 12:35 - Spirit Of Athene @ 3/1
- 13:05 - Free Your Spirit @ 5/2
- 15:20 - Villalobos @ 2/1
*Odds correct as of the time of publication
11:35 - Mc Loven @ 4/1
Our four-year-old Harry Angel filly looks to take a 6f Class 4 handicap for Epsom trainer Simon Dow, and jockey Tyler Heard.
Mc Loven has been pretty busy - 26 career starts, three wins - and has run well here on the last three occasions without quite being able to win. Those spins have been off 74, 73, then 72 within the last six weeks - and you've guessed it, the assessor has relented further today and dropped her to 71, a lifetime-low mark.
Nicely drawn in four, has a good racing weight of 8st 9lb, and has won here before. Lots to like, and seems effective over 5f but gets 6f well enough, too.
12:35 - Spirit Of Athene @ 3/1
Trainer Ed Walker has booked Luke Morris to ride his two-year-old Time Test filly, having her third run so far.
Fairly highly-tried on debut at Chelmsford in a £16k event, and though running on at the finish was never really at the races. Next time 14 days ago was a different story, here over course-and-distance, running a Roger Varian/Cheveley Park filly to a length.
Spirit Of Athene was unconsidered in the market on both occasions but could well attract support this afternoon. Some decent yards are represented and it's an engaging little contest.
13:05 - Free Your Spirit @ 5/2
Seven two-year-olds are scheduled to line up for a 1m novice stakes event.
The selection Free Your Spirit is in the hands of trainer Richard Hughes in Upper Lambourn, and will be ridden by Finley Marsh, standing on 60+ winners for the year.
It's the Starman colt's debut this afternoon and it seems connections prefer this assignment than one at Wolves on Monday, but perhaps he'll take in both!
His sire was a G1-winning sprinter but the dam is by Epsom Derby hero Motivator so there's some welcome stamina influence for this kind of test. Appeals as one of the more likely types in a fascinating race.
15:20 - Villalobos @ 2/1
The lucky last sees pretty experienced animals going a mile in a modest Class 6 handicap.
Our selection is a six-year-old course-and-distance winner who's trained in Hampshire by former jockey Simon Hodgson. Villalobos is a gelding by Footstepsinthesand out of an Acclamation mare, so very nicely bred.
48 races under rules have yielded seven wins, six of which have been on the all-weather, most recently just two starts ago here (by 1.5l, off a mark of 50). He's since run a close second, claimer ridden and once again at this venue, off 55.
He's down a pound this afternoon to 54 and professional Marsh, on board our previous selection, has been booked to do the steering here (he knows the horse well).
I take that as a vote of confidence that another claimer hasn't been secured to lessen the burden, and while in such evidently great form he can fizz in again. Nicely drawn in the three box.
If all four of our selections won, today's notional 50p win Lucky 15, at the prices indicated (they can of course fluctuate), would return around £260 for a £7.50 total stake.
