Football bet of the day

Hull City were left stunned on Friday as they conceded four first-half goals against Middlesbrough in the Championship. They clawed one back in the second half but it was a poor evening from the Tigers.

They are in action at the MKM Stadium again on Wednesday (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event) as Wrexham head to Humberside. My Football Bet of the Day comes from this clash, and Hull fans are not going to like it.

Hull vs Wrexham Odds

Hull have won two of their last five league games and they are 11/8 to prevail here.

Wrexham have drawn three of their past five matches in the second tier and the stalemate is available at 23/10. The Red Dragons are 2/1 to collect the three points, having won four of their previous nine outings in the Championship.

Backing the visitors to come out on top here looks the value bet for me, but with the addition of BTTS - Yes, because Hull are the joint-third highest scorers (at the time of writing) in the division with 31 goals.

The Tigers are going through a bit of a blip at the moment with three defeats in their last four, and Friday's humiliation against Boro is cause for concern. If Hull wish to keep up in this play-off race that is as stacked as one you would see at Cheltenham, they need to get back on track sooner rather than later.

We have entered the busy festive period where games come thick and fast. This is often the time that makes or break teams. The Tigers have showcased their qualities in the first few months of the campaign but they will need to rediscover that quickly so they don't get left behind.

Sergej Jakirovic and his players will no doubt be fired up to deliver a swift response on Wednesday, but Wrexham will have their own ideas.

The Red Dragons are unbeaten in their last nine outings in the league and they were denied an impressive victory at Preston North End last time out by a late equaliser.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Wrexham are unbeaten in nine league games (four wins)
  • Hull have lost their last two home matches

Wrexham are the Championship's draw specialists this term with nine to date, including five on their travels. Phil Parkinson's side have just two wins on the road so far but they have also only been beaten twice, too.

Although their current unbeaten streak has more stalemates than victories, they have momentum, and importantly more than their hosts. Hull have lost three from four and now includes back-to-back matches at the MKM. The Tigers will likely be feeling vulnerable and the Red Dragons are poised to take advantage.

The visitors will have no doubt paid close attention to Hull's defeat against Middlesbrough and they will have seen just how much space the Tigers afforded Boro, and they will look to utilise that themselves on Wednesday.

Despite their current form, Hull still boast one of the best home records in the division and so this won't be easy for Wrexham, so they will still need to be at their best. But I do think they are good value to win this battle, I would just prepare for a few goals because the home team have bagged 31 goals this term so far.

On top of this, Hull rank second in the league for BTTS - Yes, which has landed in 74% (14/19) of their games, including seven of their 10 clashes on home turf. There have also been goals at both ends in five of their past six appearances in the second tier heading into this contest.
