There's a heavyweight clash in La Liga on Tuesday night as Barcelona take on Atlético Madrid at Camp Nou. Just three points separate the teams, who currently hold first and fourth places in the table.

Both sides would have had half an eye on this upcoming match over the past week, and it feels even bigger now courtesy of Real Madrid dropping points in three straight league games. With Los Blancos wobbling badly, the title race is wide open again, with even Villarreal in the mix after 14 matches.

Barcelona are of course still the team most likely to capitalise on any problems at the Santiago Bernabéu. With injuries to the likes of Pedri and Raphinha, the past few weeks had the potential to be a really damaging period for the Catalans.

Hansi Flick will therefore be delighted that his team has managed to win all four league games since losing El Clásico in October. They played well in a 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo, followed by a dominant 4-0 home win over Athletic Club, in their first game back at Camp Nou.

However, it was less convincing on Saturday against Alavés. The Basque side are the joint-second lowest scorers in La Liga, but they took the lead inside a minute, and had a number of other opportunities. Barça came back to win 3-1, but didn't kill the game off until the second of two Dani Olmo goals in the 93rd minute.

A clearly emotional Flick looked worn out by the end, with the home boss needing to be consoled by Raphinha in widely-circulated images. The Brazilian's return to the starting lineup, and key role in the opening two goals was one positive, while Pedri also featured for the final 30 minutes for the first time since his injury.

It was more comfortable for Atlético Madrid a few hours later on Saturday night. At home to bottom club Real Oviedo, Diego Simeone opted to rest the likes of José María Giménez, Pablo Barrios, Julián Álvarez and Giuliano Simeone. Alexander Sørloth rotated in up front, and the Norwegian scored twice in the opening 30 minutes to set up a 2-0 victory.

Since losing 4-0 to Arsenal in October, Atleti have won seven straight matches in all competitions. That includes a 2-0 win at Real Betis, and a 2-1 home victory over Inter in the Champions League, although it's true that they've had an otherwise favourable run of fixtures during that period.

Atleti's record of only two wins from eight away fixtures this season remains a concern. They look capable of beating anyone at the Estadio Metropolitano, but they're going to need to show much more on the road if this season is to ultimately be a successful one.

Los Rojiblancos did win this fixture last December. Sørloth's 95th-minute goal sealed a first ever league victory for Atleti away to Barcelona during Simeone's long reign.

However, Barça went on to take their revenge, by knocking Atleti out of the Copa del Rey at the semi-final stage. They also won the reverse league fixture 4-2.

Team News:

Barcelona are expected to be missing four players due to a range of fitness issues. Fermín López, Marc-André ter Stegen, Ronald Araújo and Gavi are the unlucky quartet, although of those players, only Fermín might have been in line for a starting role if fit.

The home boss must decide whether Raphinha and Pedri are ready to start in a game of this magnitude. He'll also need to choose between Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres up front. The Polish veteran was preferred at the weekend, but Ferran offers more movement, and could be selected on Tuesday night.

Atleti look set to be missing two defensive regulars again, with Robin Le Normand and Marcos Llorente both carrying injuries. Otherwise, Simeone should have a full squad to pick from.

A number of changes are expected from the weekend, with Giménez, Barrios, Álvarez and Simeone all sure to rotate back in. Álex Baena should operate behind Álvarez in attack, with the ex-Villarrreal man likely to have a key role to play.

Barcelona vs Atlético Madrid Predicted Lineups

  • Barcelona: J. Garcia, Kounde, E. Garcia, Cubarsi, Balde; De Jong, Pedri, Yamal, Olmo, Raphinha, Lewandowski
  • Atletico Madrid: Oblak, Molina, Gimenez, Hancko, Ruggeri, Cardoso, Simeone, Barrios, Koke, Baena, Alvarez

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Odds

Barcelona are the 4/5 favourites to win this game. Atlético Madrid are available at 3/1, while the Draw is also priced at 3/1.

Despite needing to play in three different stadiums, Barça have won seven out of seven at home in La Liga so far. For bigger returns on a home victory, you can back Barcelona to win and Over 2.5 goals at 5/4. Meanwhile, the Catalans are priced at 3/1 to win the game to nil.

Atleti can be backed to win either half at 6/5. They are priced at 5/4 to score over 1.5 goals, while Over 3.5 total goals is on offer at odds of 11/10.

While there are doubts over who will start up front for Barcelona, Álvarez will almost certainly fulfil that role for the visitors. The ex-Man City man is priced at 5/1 to score first, and 7/5 to score anytime. You can also back Baena to get on the scoresheet at 3/1.

From a home perspective, Olmo should be feeling confident after his weekend brace. The attacking midfielder is priced at 9/5 to score anytime. Meanwhile, Yamal is available at 11/8 to score anytime.

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Stats

  • Barcelona matches contain more corners per 90 minutes (11.21) than any other La Liga team bar Rayo Vallecano (11.54).
  • Robert Lewandowski (59%) and Julian Alvarez (55%) have the highest Shot on Target accuracy of any player with 5+ La Liga goals this season.

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Prediction 1 - First team to score - Atlético Madrid @ 11/8

There was a little bit of Spanish football history at the weekend, as Atlético Madrid became the first ever team to score first in all of their opening 14 matches of a La Liga season.

They've been very fast out of the blocks, and they also often started brightly in their matches against Barcelona last season. Atleti were 2-0 up inside six minutes on their last visit in the Copa del Rey in February, while they were also 2-0 up in the most recent league meeting between the teams.

Neither of those matches ended in victories for Simeone's team, but they'll fancy their chances of grabbing the first goal again. Barcelona have often started poorly this season, conceding in the first half in six of their last seven matches. Given those trends, Atlético Madrid look good at 11/8 to score first in this game.

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Prediction 2 - Barcelona to score over 1.5 goals & Lamine Yamal 4+ shots @ 11/8

Even if Atleti break the deadlock, it's unlikely to do too much to knock Barça out of their stride. This is a team that has frequently come back to win from one and two goal deficits during Flick's reign, and they've scored at least twice in all of their home league games so far this term.

The Barça boss now has his full complement of wide and forward options available. Whether he picks Ferran or Lewandowski, Raphinha or Marcus Rashford, the German will have real quality to turn to if he needs to chase goals in the latter stages of this contest.

The one indisputable pick in the final third is Yamal. He'll fancy his chances up against an Atleti side that has had problems at left-back this term. The teenager is averaging 5.21 shots per 90 minutes, which is the highest figure in La Liga.

Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Barcelona to score over 1.5 goals, and Lamine Yamal to have four or more shots at 11/8.
