Football bet of the day

Championship action comes our way on Wednesday night and it is Sheffield Wednesday who offer value as they travel to the Den. Not in a good way for the Owls faithful though.

Read on for Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day.

Millwall vs Sheffield Wednesday Odds

Sheffield Wednesday’s future off the pitch is all that matters for them this season, but on the pitch they were handed a heavy beating by Sheffield United on Sunday. It isn’t just the fact they lost 3-0 at home to their fiercest rivals, but the manner of the defeat was damaging.

They didn’t manage a shot on target in a tepid display and it just brought home the reality of just how poor this squad is in comparison to their Championship competitors. Off the pitch, the administrators are trying to whittle down the potential buyers, with plenty of interest in the club at the time of writing.

That spells out potentially a bright future for the Owls, but on the pitch they are way off it. I’d back any Championship club to beat them right now, especially during a three-game week. They have only won once this season, away at Portsmouth, and they are yet to win a game during a three-game week.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Sheffield Wednesday have lost by three goals on four occasions this season
  • Wednesday have won just one game in 2025/26

This squad is so small, with academy players filling out the bench, that these midweek tests can be a stretch too far for them. I think over the next six weeks, between now and January, Wednesday’s results will only worsen. Barry Bannan can’t start in every game at the age of 35 and this squad is going to pick up further injuries and suspensions.

That brings me to Millwall away on Wednesday night. Alex Neil will have been furious to see his side go down 3-1 to Portsmouth at the weekend, and they are winless in four after a strong start to the campaign. However, they do have Mihailo Ivanovic up top who is one of the finest finishers in the league, so I’d expect them to get back on track in style at the Den.

Stoke City, Bristol City, Sheffield United and Coventry City have all beaten Wednesday by at least three goals this season and I think Millwall could be the next to join that list. The Lions have an extra day’s rest, and something to prove - so I think they are a massive price when we add the -2 handicap for our Football Bet of the Day.
