Horse Racing Tips: Pluie a risk worth taking

Lingfield park racecourse

There are four meetings scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, three jumps cards followed by some AW Flat action under the lights.

First off is Limerick at 12:35 before Kelso (12:55) and Lingfield (13:15) and Newcastle at 15:45. Among our Tuesday fancies is one for in-form trainer Ben Clarke, who made a good start over fences last season and should relish today’s step up in trip.

14:45 Lingfield - Risk De Pluie @ 6/1

Fitness has to be taken on trust for Ben Clarke’s RISK DE PLUIE after 276 days off the track, but it’s a chance worth taking given the promise in which he ran over an inadequate 2m at Wincanton last time.

A 3m point winner, the six-year-old is a half-brother to 2m7f hurdle winner Rajsalad and will surely appreciate going up to 2m6f for the first time.

He’s got form figures of 322 since going chasing and ran to a Racing Post Rating of 121 at Wincanton in February. He was only slightly below that level when splitting a pair of subsequent winners over 2m3f at Exeter previously.

Officially rated 116, he’s got solid claims and his yard has struck with two of their last four runners.

15:05 Limerick - Barryroe Madam @ 8/1

There was a lot to like about the way in which BARRYROE MADAM finished off from an unpromising position when third at Galway last month and she makes plenty of appeal off a 1lb higher mark.

Barryroe Madam has developed into a reliable yardstick in staying handicaps this year and has arguably been unfortunate to only win once, having fallen at the last when disputing the lead at Naas in April and been touched off in a 20-runner race at Punchestown in the summer.

She’s now 11lb above May’s Listowel success, but to make up the amount of ground that she did from two out last time suggests she’s still got a bit in hand of the handicapper.

Jamie Smith, who was aboard for her win, is reunited with the six-year-old.

17:15 Newcastle - Fifty Nifty @ 7/1

Recent form figures for FIFTY NIFTY are hardly encouraging, but he had excuses for his defeat on his debut for Michael Appleby at York last time (taken on the lead and weakened quickly) and he could prove some value in an open race.

The selection won two of his four outings last year when in the care of Tom Clover, getting off the mark in a Yarmouth maiden over a mile before supplementing in a 7f Newmarket handicap off a mark of 87.

He was better than ever on his seasonal reappearance, running to an impressive Racing Post Rating of 100 when getting within a neck of the progressive and subsequent Wokingham third, Ten Pounds.

His form rather tailed off afterwards and he’s since left Clover, but he’s still been running well enough to make him of interest off a new career-low mark of 84 and this stiff 7f should suit.
