Football Bet of the Day: Unstoppable Haaland heads for World Cup

Sunday’s football action sees some key qualifiers take place, as nations all around the globe strive to book their places at the 2026 World Cup.
Italy host Norway (19:45 GMT, Prime Video), and that’s the game that has caught my eye in Group I as I deliver my Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, November 16
- Erling Haaland to score anytime vs Italy @ 23/20
*odds correct at time of publication
If Erling Haaland is ever above EVS to score anytime, I am always going to suggest backing him. It doesn’t matter whether he is facing AC Milan’s 2005 defence or Chelsea’s record-breaking back line - he is just that good. So, it comes as no surprise to find out that I’m going to back the Manchester City man to find the net yet again.
He’s the best striker in the world, along with Harry Kane, but it is Haaland’s ruthlessness and decisiveness in front of goal that makes him a major threat. Nineteen goals in 15 games this season for his club is absolutely insane, with 14 goals in 11 Premier League outings a sign of his efficiency.
For Norway, he’s now scored 53 goals in 47 games and he, at this rate, is going to go down as one of the best goalscorers we have ever seen. He added two to his tally against Estonia to all but seal Norway’s place at the World Cup next summer.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Haaland has 19 goals in 15 games this season for his club
- Haaland has scored 53 goals in 47 international games
They sit three points clear of Italy with one game to play and with a goal difference that is 17 better than Italy’s it would take a ginormous collapse for them to fail from here. However, this is also a great test for Norway to see how they will fare against some of the bigger nations next summer and so I see no reason why Stale Solbakken would name a weakened XI here.
Haaland is an unstoppable force right now and Italy are no longer the defensive force they once were on the international stage. They are certainly better than they were a few years ago and are unfortunate not to directly qualify for the World Cup as things stand, conceding eight goals across seven qualifiers so far.
Anyway, this is more about Haaland than the opposition and I don’t think he can be stopped right now. As I said at the top of the piece, anything over EVS is well worth backing on the anytime goalscorer market when it comes to this absolute freak of nature.
