Azim vs Scoby Odds

Azim is a big favourite at 1/11. Scoby comes in as a late replacement which is reflected in his 15/2 price. The draw is set at 18/1.

Azim vs Scoby Fight Preview

The year 2025 will not go down as a banner annum when the story of Adam Azim is told. It is not the fighter’s fault. The 23-year-old hammered out a career-best win over former IBF champion Sergey Lipinets in nine February rounds. The perfect start to a year that is yet to get any better.

Azim was scheduled to box on the Callum Simpson vs Ivan Zucco card back in June. But that Oakwell Stadium outing was curtailed on the day, when it emerged that opponent Eliot Chavez reportedly used a sauna to make weight. That practice is illegal under the British Board of Control and the bout was called off.

The young prospect was due to face his toughest test on this Tottenham show, with world class Zaur Abdullaev set to occupy the opposing corner. But the Russian pulled out last month having been unable to secure a visa.

So Azim has months of frustration to take out on Scoby. The American is 18-1 but even the aficionados would struggle to pick out a noteworthy name among those 19 opponents. The defeat was a stoppage loss to Dakota Linger, a fighter less likely to make it to the International Boxing Hall of Fame than Clubber Lang.

But a fighter is more than their losses. Scoby looked good dismantling Haskell Rhodes on an OTX show in June. The veteran had taken Lipinets, Edner Cherry and Floyd Schofield the distance during his career. But Scoby broke him down with strong, precise punching in six rounds.

Scoby’s most recent foe, Alex Martin, was another durable sort. He had gone the distance with Brit Michael McKinson and fringe contender Pedro Campa. Martin also held a victory over that wise old man of the weight class; Hank Lundy. But Scoby wasn’t arsed, knocking him out in the eighth round.

Azim is a huge step-up in class, though. One of the most promising prospects in world boxing today, the 140-pounder has all the tools to thrive in a division that has been good to British fighters. The sorely-missed Ricky Hatton, Olympic hero Amir Khan, Sheffield puzzle box Junior Witter and Welsh pocket rocket Gavin Rees have all held world belts in the division. Scotland’s Josh Taylor, Britain’s only ever four-belt undisputed champion, completed the historic feat at super lightweight, too.

No pressure then, Adam. To tell you the truth, having been around the man, pressure is not something Azim feels. An old soul at 23, ‘The Assassin’ is keenly-aware of his place in the pecking order and what he has to do to change it.

Azim is ranked in the world top-10s of the WBC and IBF. A win here will see him launch an assault on the top places with those sanctioning bodies. A particularly intriguing possibility when you consider that Sheffield’s Dalton Smith faces WBC champion Subriel Matias in Brooklyn in January. There are few bigger domestic dust-ups outside the heavyweight division than Smith-Azim with a world title on the line.

But there are two fights separating us from that potential 2026 mega-occasion. First, Azim needs to get past Scoby. Not a formality by any means. But, after the best win of his career was followed by frustrating radio silence, Azim will be looking to impress a bumper Tottenham crowd.

Azim vs Scoby Prediction

Scoby will make a fight out of this. I’m just not convinced it will be a very long one.

The 30-year-old knockout artist comes forward throwing bombs, some of them wild and woolly, some of them accurate and devastating. His head movement is okay, though he’s not the quickest or the slickest. It is an admirable skillset and, for 18 men, it has proved too much to deal with.

Azim is not one of those men. His uppercuts will not reward any Scoby sloppiness. His jab is a weapon as much as a measuring stick. The 23-year-old is adept at inside fighting despite his long frame. Adaptable. Attack-minded. Azim to win by knockout at 1/2.
