Gilley comes in as the champion and with the backing of a bumper crowd at the stadium of the team he supports, Tottenham Hotspur. But he remains the underdog at 11/4. Davis is priced at 1/3 while the draw is marketed at 12/1
Gilley vs Davis Fight Preview
Gilley goes in search of the missing piece of the puzzle on Saturday night. ‘Magic Man’ has conjured the English and Commonwealth titles during a 20-fight pro career. Now he seeks to add the vacant British belt to the list.
The Lonsdale belt is the one everyone wants and it remains the oldest active boxing championship in the world. Davis won a final eliminator to fight for the British super welterweight championship in May 2024. But that impressive win over the double-tough Troy Williamson did not lead to a crack at the elegant gold.
Instead, Davis showed his mettle by accepting a fight with world class Josh Kelly on six days’ notice. Ex-WBO champion Liam Smith pulled out of the bout on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois card at Wembley last year. Davis stepped in and pushed Kelly all the way, losing a hard-fought majority decision after rocking his opponent in the last round.
Davis was once again the hero when it came to keeping world class Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury II card last December. Former world champion Israil Madrimov pulled out two weeks before. Davis was dispatched in six rounds on a memorable night in Riyadh.
From the cusp of British glory to subbing for a pair of ex-world kings was both brave and harmful. The momentum Davis had built beating the likes of Williamson and stopping previously-unbeaten Ewan Mackenzie had evaporated. But the hard fights kept coming.
A resurgent Caoimhin Agyarko was not in a giving mood when he met Davis in September. The Irishman outscored Ishmael, despite hitting the deck in the last round of a split decision. Davis, for all his incredible fortitude to take three incredibly hard fights in a row, was back to square one.

A keep-busy win over journeyman Elliot Eboigbe a month later kept Davis active. Now he gets what is sure to be one last crack on a stadium show. ‘The Black Panther’ is becoming a regular feature on these huge outdoor cards. He is always value for money, too. There is a reason Davis’ phone is the one to ring if a 154-pounder needs a last-minute opponent. But there is only so many times you can lose big fights before it defines you.
Gilley is yet to face the kind of talent Davis has scrapped with over the last two years. He is a year older than Davis at 31, but far fresher in ring terms despite having had three more fights. A draw last time out in a journeyman eight-rounder was an aberration. The Walthamstow man brings his signature ‘Magic’ when it matters.

Gilley vs Davis Prediction
If you are not careful, losing becomes a habit. Davis taking an eight-rounder last month is no coincidence. Winning is a mindset, a mood and a feeling as much as it is a conglomeration of technical successes. Davis has had to recapture a version of himself who has his hand raised.
I expect that version to emerge at Tottenham on Saturday night. Incredibly, this is Davis’ first 12-round fight since March 2024 where he has faced an opponent outside the world rankings. ‘The Black Panther’ is finally getting a chance to finish what he started and become British champion. I’m picking him to do so on points at 2/1.
