Football Bet of the Day: Wednesday’s misery to continue

Sheffield Wednesday’s problems are getting worse and worse this season, as the busy Championship fixture list takes its toll on the weakest squad in the division.
With Middlesbrough trying to keep pace with the early pace-setters Coventry City, I’ve gone for a big away win at Hillsborough (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event), for Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, October 22
- Price Boost - Middlesbrough to win both halves vs Sheff Wed @ 4/1

Sheff Wed vs Middlesbrough Odds
Sheffield Wednesday were always going to struggle this season and relegation looks to be a certainty at this point. The off-the-field issues are obvious to all, and there’s another protest planned for this game, but one that should be headline news.
Wednesday season ticket holders have continued to turn up to support their team having already parted with their cash before Dejphon Chansiri started to asset-strip the club. However, on Wednesday night, they are planning on staying away, with empty seats set to draw the attention of the footballing world with this game live on Sky Sports.
The atmosphere is going to be a strange one then and Wednesday’s home form is incredibly weak even when the fans were turning up. One point from five at Hillsborough, 14 goals conceded in that time and a 5-0 loss to Coventry last time out in front of their own fans won’t have done anything to help their confidence.

Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Sheffield Wednesday have picked up one point at home all season
- Boro have the best defence in the Championship having conceded seven goals
Boro should flourish then; if they can keep the tempo up in this strange atmosphere, they should pick Wednesday off with ease. Talking of Wednesday’s woes, defender Ernie Weaver is now out long-term and they’ve got serious issues in goal.
Pierce Charles has had a shoulder operation, so the Owls were allowed to bring in Ethan Horvath on an emergency loan. Cardiff’s third-choice ‘keeper was sent off at Charlton at the weekend meaning they’ve been granted special permission to bring in Bristol City’s Joe Lumley for a week - and he arrives with mixed reviews from former clubs.
Given he’s not played behind this defence before and will barely get a chance to train with his new teammates, I can’t see him performing well. Boro have a lot of talent, especially in attacking areas, while they have also conceded the fewest goals in the league (7).
The disparity between the two teams is seismic and should become apparent on the pitch. Coventry won 5-0 against Wednesday, and Boro are the closest team to the Sky Blues this term, so the Price Boost for Boro to win both halves - as Cov did - looks to be massive value at 4/1.
