Lucky 15 Tips: Ollie and Jennie can shine at Sedgefield

There's a good-looking six-race card at Sedgefield on Wednesday with the likes of Sean Bowen and Brian Hughes in attendance. That, as they say, will do beautifully for our midweek Lucky 15 tips. In-form trainer Jennie Candlish is firing a few darts, too.

Never been to Sedgefield, but it looks fabulous and I really must.

14:15 - Jamada @ 8/15

We're straight in with a Sean Bowen/Olly Murphy hotpot!

I see the price is a bit skinny, but it would be great to start with a winner if possible and we can but hope there's some market opposition to this one.

Jamada is a five-year-old gelding formerly with John Queally in County Waterford. After three national hunt flat races (winning the final one of those when last seen, in Naas in April), he makes his hurdling debut in this maiden.

I'm hoping he knows his job but he's only been with Olly about three weeks and it will be fascinating to see how they fare here. Powerful team, terrific record together - can't resist.

14:45 - Pescatorius @ 8/11

And again - backed this one at Perth a fortnight ago in what looked a better contest and the six-year-old ran a really solid race for Sean and Olly in missing out by just 2.5l at a shorter trip - 2m 4f.

Pescatorius gets 3m 2.5f here which will hopefully suit, and he's quietly progressive over fences. Olly's had him since June, shipping in from Harriet Dickin's (Somerset to Warwickshire), and a second chase career win is a distinct possibility.

Looks nicely weighted with 10st 10lb in the context of this contest and has a mighty chance under the absolutely brilliant champion jockey.

15:15 - Dickens @ 9/4

The aforementioned Jennie Candlish saddles this prolific seven-year-old handicap hurdler, as he bids to record career win number eight in his 27th start all told.

Dickens is a smashing yard favourite and races off a career high-equalling mark of 109 this afternoon. Last time out just nine days ago he took a Newton Abbot seller off the same spot, 109, and again 3lb claimer Luke Scott is on board.

He didn't claim in Devon as it was a conditional jockeys' race so those few pounds can come in mighty handy in County Durham. The horse, and the yard, are in fine fettle and this could be another for Jennie and this gelded son of Excelebration.

16:15 - Captain Cool @ 10/3

I'm siding with the Basford, Staffordshire operation of Ms Candlish once again and her five-year-old gelding Captain Cool, to be ridden by stable jockey Sean Quinlan.

Career-best for this one when last seen at this very track just eight days ago, going down by a length-and-a-half in a similar heat. This will only be his fourth hurdle race, allied to three previous point-to-point outings, and he's still very much learning on the job.

He's off the same mark, 99, as last time and looks to me to have a terrific chance.

There's a cracking day's National Hunt racing in prospect, with one of the best jockeys we've probably ever seen in the sport on show in young Mr Bowen. Enjoy.
