We’re in North Lanarkshire on Saturday evening for an intriguing match from the Scottish Premiership. Motherwell welcome Aberdeen to a busy Fir Park with the locals eager to protect their hard-earned unbeaten record.
Since he was appointed as Well manager, Denmark’s Jens Berthel Askou has led his team to five consecutive draws, scoring and conceding seven goals. That run includes a 1-1 with Rangers at this stadium on the opening day of the season.
Aberdeen started this season with high hopes of securing a European finish. Following an interesting summer recruitment drive, many pundits predicted the Dons could split the Old Firm and even challenge for the title.
Things haven’t gone according to plan for manager Jimmy Thelin. He guided the Dons to the Scottish Cup late last season, beating Celtic in the final.
This term, they failed to win their opening five league games. Pressure is mounting on the manager and his team to climb the ladder and close the gap on the early leaders.
The 2025/26 Premiership campaign will be highly competitive, unpredictable, and great fun to follow. It’ll also give fans plenty of opportunities to find betting value and make a profit, and there’s a lot to take your fancy in the Motherwell vs Aberdeen betting.
Ranked above their opponents in the Premiership standings, unbeaten in five and bringing a superior goal difference, it’s no surprise to see Motherwell available as 6/5 favourites with Betfred.
Aberdeen are better than their current league position suggests, and I’m confident they’ll finish in the top half of the division. Dons made some good moves in the summer transfer market, but they need time to gel.
The manager is already under pressure as the joy of that cup final win fades, and many fans are running out of patience.
An away win at a tricky venue would go some way to winning over those in the stands. You can back Aberdeen to beat Motherwell at 23/10 or try the draw at 12/5.
Motherwell vs Aberdeen Stats
- Neither team have won in their past six matches.
- Motherwell have drawn six on the spin.
Over 2.5 goals
Saturday evening will be the second time Motherwell and Aberdeen have met this season. The Steelmen eliminated the Dons from the League Cup last weekend.
Regan Charles-Cook scored the goal that sent his side into the semi-finals, attracting a chorus of boos from around Pittodrie at full-time. It was a hard-earned away win for Askou, but I expect a few more goals in this renewal.
Motherwell’s home form shows they drew with Rangers and shared four goals with Kilmarnock. A bet on over 2.5 goals would’ve also banked you a winner when Well left Tynecastle with a point following a dramatic 3-3 result.
The visitors are painfully low on goals, but did put six past the Steelmen in three Premiership meetings last season. Follow our thinking and back Motherwell vs Aberdeen to provide at least three goals. It doesn’t matter who scores them or which team wins.
Place the bet at Betfred, watch the match on Premier Sports, and hope these well-matched rivals put on a show.

Match Result - Draw
Backing the draw in Motherwell games has proven a profitable strategy of late. With a level finish in their first five Premiership matches, I’m more than happy to stick with the stats and trends.
A share of the spoils would keep the locals in a strong position, and I’m confident that Thelin would also see the value in a point. Aberdeen need to show their fans something and soon, or it could cost the manager his position.
The Aberdeen squad is still hurting from that unexpected cup exit last weekend, but will welcome the opportunity to gain revenge quickly. The Dons may have lost 1-0 that day, but they had opportunities to score, finishing with 59% of the ball possession and seven shots at goal.
Nicky Devlin also saw a shot cannon back off the bar during a frantic finish. Mounting pressure won’t help Aberdeen much, but the visitors have the character to silence their critics. The draw would suit both managers and those following our predictions.
