Lucky 15 Tips: Ponte Carlo looks appetising on Thursday

Thursday's Lucky 15 Tips will come from West Yorkshire, and the gloriously-quirky contours of Pontefract racecourse. I've enjoyed many an afternoon there in the past and hope to visit again soon. Friendly, picturesque, competitive fare, and a love for the sport so prevalent in that county in particular.

The action for their seven-race programme kicks in at 14:08, and it's sure to be hugely entertaining.

14:08 - Canaria Queen @ 2/1

Apprentices do battle, over 5f.

Our selection is Canaria Queen, a five-year-old mare by Pastoral Pursuits, and trained by Tim Easterby. Jake Dickson is in the plate claiming 7lb, and I believe he's had five career winners so far, all this term.

His outstanding trainer will surely have imparted plenty of knowledge and experience, and his partner is talented - five wins from 35 career starts being proof positive of the fact.

Nicely drawn in the one box - every chance.

14:43 - Napolian @ 2/1

Sprinters once again, this time over 6f, and the powerful northern combo of trainer David O'Meara and jockey Danny Tudhope.

Napolian is a two-year-old colt by Kodiac out of a Nayef mare, and has run three times so far in novice and maiden company. Two third-place finishes and a second shows he has ability, and he looks to have a Ralph Beckett-trained raider (Spanish Waltz) to beat according to the layers.

In deepest Yorkshire at one of their premier tracks I'm hoping Upper Helmsley's finest can repel all impertinent would-be assailants, and get off the mark.

15:53 - Gaspacho @ 1/1

Danny Tudhope is again the man on board for this one mile novice heat but this time he's been snaped up by the all-conquering William Haggas yard.

Gaspacho is a Ghaiyyath filly out of a mare by Motivator, so she's beautifully bred and on the evidence of her one start to date (a Haydock maiden three weeks ago), certainly not devoid of ability.

Cieren Fallon rode her that day to a fifth-placed finish, beaten 3.25l, and despite running green showed bags of promise. She'll have plenty of supporters as proud Newmarket-based Yorkshireman Haggas looks to score this afternoon in his home county.

17:05 - Vulcan Way @ 3/1

This three-year-old New Bay gelding is looking for win number one after six starts, and very nearly achieved it last time 17 days ago at Windsor.

Vulcan Way finished less than a length off winner Naasma, and races today off the same mark (68). Similar mile-and-a-half trip, and at Class 5 level handicap-wise once again.

Harry Eustace trains (HQ), and Kaiya Fraser has the riding assignment. Today could be graduation day - with last time being a career-best and another in a series of consistent, close-up efforts.
