Brown vs Gongora Predictions: Tiara guards the crown in tricky first defence

WBC featherweight champion Tiara Brown defends her crown for the first time against Emma Brown this Saturday, September 20. The bout takes place at the Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas. The action will be screened live on DAZN.
Here are my Brown vs Gongora predictions ahead of this world championship occasion.
Brown is a big 1/20 favourite in this one. The challenger is priced at 11/1 or 8.3% in implied probability terms. The draw is up at 18/1.
Brown vs Gongora Fight Preview
On the surface, it looks like Brown has done the tricky bit. The 37-year-old went into Skye Nicolson’s backyard and took the Aussie’s WBC championship in one of 2025’s biggest upsets. But often, it is what comes next that is tougher for an unexpected champion.
Make no mistake, Nicolson was a far tougher fight on paper than Gongora. But Brown came into that one without the weight of expectation. Everything was set up for a Nicolson win. The bout took place in her native Australia with the WBC commissioning a ‘Homecoming’ belt for the occasion. The fact Brown took that strap home, along with the official WBC championship, felt like comeuppance for the best-laid plans opposing her triumph.
But Brown is back in the States, a homecoming of her own if you will. Gongora is a heavy 11/1 underdog, heavier than Brown’s 5/1 for the fight with Nicolson. For the first time in a world title fight, ‘The Dark Menace’ is the boxer expected to win a procession.
Brown does not strike me as the sort to take anything for granted. A two-time IBA World Amateur Championships medalist, the Floridian took home gold in 2012 and bronze in 2014. For a decade after those lofty unpaid achievements, Brown waited for her crack at professional championships. Now 37, the veteran is old enough and wise enough to protect what he has earned.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
It is a daunting task for the challenger, Gongora of France. ‘Valkyria’ is 10-3-1 but she is unbeaten in five outings. Her record is a little deceptive, with two of her losses actually coming in the first two bouts of her career. One of those losses came against Estelle Mossely, who remains unbeaten and has since claimed the IBO title. The other was against Rima Ayadi, who would go on to hold the WBA interim championship.
After a double-tough start to her professional career, there can be little left that worries Gongora. Brown has knockout power, but her French opponent has never been stopped. This is a tricky challenge for the champion, even if it is one where she is heavily-favoured to prevail.

Brown vs Gongora Prediction
Gongora is not an easy night’s work for Brown, but it is a night I am expecting the champion to negotiate. Gifted on the front-foot, I can see the champion retaining her title by pressing the action making Gongora uncomfortable the whole way. Brown to win at 1/20 for me.
