Dickinson vs Williamson Fight Preview
It is safe to say this is probably a fight neither man expected to have. Dickinson turned over as a pro as a top amateur, with European and Commonwealth youth medals and having competed at the senior European and World Championships.
Williamson was a brilliant, take-on-all-comers British super welterweight champion when Dickinson turned pro at super middleweight. While the latter would drop down to middleweight for a spell, the majority of the former’s success has come at the 154lbs limit. Now Williamson moves up to 168lb to try and rescue an ailing career.
Williamson was a cracking fighter at one stage and remains a good one. The boxer who notched the British and IBF European belts, beat Harry Scarff and snapped the unbeaten record of Kieran Smith has likely departed. The Williamson of today is a world away from the man who prevailed in one of 2020’s most exhilarating fights, against Ted Cheeseman.
That might seem harsh. After all, Williamson might have lost four of his last five, but only good men have beaten him in that run. Josh Kelly is about to fight for a world title while Caoimhín Agyarko is the WBA number-five. Ishmael Davis was 12-0 at the time and has only lost at world level since. Jahi Tucker is considered a rising star.
So Dickinson faces a challenger who has not won consecutive fights since 2022. But one who is tough to gauge, given the extremely high level of competition that Williamson has faced. Dickinson therefore fights, more than anything, to prove he belongs in that rarefied company.
It is a level once predicted for him. Dickinson’s fine amateur schooling was supposed to give way to a professional rise. A tough defeat to Kazuto Takesako on the road in Japan put paid to that. But after a furious war with Reece Farnhill to take the British belt last time out, the 26-year-old is making up for lost time.

This is a good bout for ‘Boo Boo”. It is another learning fight, with Williamson having much knowledge to impart with those educated fists. But it is a fight he is expected to win. I fancied Farnhill to beat him last time and was happily proven wrong. Dickinson showed a lot of grit, alongside lessons learned over in Japan, to take home the English belt.
The question now is whether Dickinson can defend it. The man in the other corner knows all about titles. This one is fascinatingly poised, with just the right amount of jeopardy.

Dickinson vs Williamson Prediction
Dickinson is naturally bigger, younger and coming off a win. Williamson did his best work two divisions lower down, is 34 and can’t buy a big win. Sometimes, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, you slap some blue garb on it and call it Donald.
Yes, sadly given his status as a pre-eminent warrior of the British ring over the last decade, I think Williamson is beaten handily here. I don’t think he’ll get stopped. Dickinson has just two knockouts from his eight wins and Williamson has never been knocked out. But I do think the English champion wins on points at 8/13.
