Wakefield Trinity know only a victory will do on Saturday (17:30 BST, Sky Sports+) as they look to force their way into the playoff picture against a Huddersfield Giants side buoyed by their win over Warrington last weekend.

Trinity are just a point off the top six, but this home clash against one of the Super League strugglers is a game they simply have to win. Below are my Wakefield Trinity vs Huddersfield Giants predictions, alongside team news and match odds.

Team News

Wakefield head coach Daryl Powell makes two changes to his squad following last week's crushing 44-2 loss at champions Wigan.

Winger Lachlan Walmsley misses out, while Ellis Lingard drops out despite signing a new long-term contract this week.

So veteran winger Matty Russell and Jayden Myers return to the squad.

Still out through injury are Ky Rodwell and Caleb Hamlin-Uele.

Huddersfield boss Luke Robinson was bouncing after their win over the Wolves last time out, and he makes just one change to his initial 21-man squad.

Oliver Russell is on loan from Wakefield and, therefore, unable to play, so his place goes to Taane Milne, who missed out last week through suspension.

Wakefield Trinity vs Huddersfield Giants Odds

Wakefield are 1/5 to win on Saturday, with Huddersfield 18/5, or a 21.7% chance, and the draw at 20/1.

Handicap 3-way Wakefield -14 @ 11/10

I was put off by the 16-point handicap as Wakefield went to Wigan last week, but it turns out I need not have been as the Warriors ran out rampant winners by 42 points.

Still, the double pick of -8.5 and a Jai Field try at 29/20 still landed, as did our second selection of Wigan winning both halves.

Needless to say, this week should be a different story, and much as that game was must-win for Wigan, this week is must-win for Wakefield.

We fancied Huddersfield might have a go at Warrington last week - indeed, we took the Giants on the handicap and they ended up producing a shock win.

So can they bottle that performance to have a go at playoff-chasing Trinity?

I'm expecting the same kind of energy and intensity from Huddersfield, who have produced some big performances away from home, even if results have not on the whole gone their way. So this may be closer than many think.

I do have Wakefield to win, though, given what is at stake and how good they have been in front of their vocal home crowd.

With Hull playing in-form Leeds, this feels like the perfect weekend for Wakefield to edge themselves back into the top six, and I have Powell's men to win by a couple of scores.

The Super League game at Huddersfield this summer ended in a big Wakefield win by 46-10, while the Challenge Cup fixture at Huddersfield in March ended 22-12 to Wakefield. This should be a similar outcome or slightly better for the hosts.

Max Jowitt anytime try scorer @ 6/5

Plenty of options to look at in the anytime scorer market this week, with Huddersfield starlet George Flanagan and centre Jacob Gagai my picks for the visitors.

But looking at the home side to win, I'm expecting points from England winger Tom Johnstone, fellow winger Russell on his return, and also Jayden Myers, who grabbed a couple against the Giants in July.

Oliver Pratt has shown real talent in the opportunities he has been given this year, but I'm taking a punt on full-back Max Jowitt this week, who helped himself to a try in that win at Huddersfield last month.
