Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

Regular readers (we can but hope) will know I'm partial to any bits of Yorkshire in racing terms, from the majesty of the mighty York itself to glorious satellites like Catterick, Thirsk, Ripon, Pontefract, Wetherby - and certainly Beverley. It's to the latter-named venue that we're heading for Wednesday's Lucky 15 tips.

They adore their horses, and horseracing, in Yorkshire. It's an integral part of life for so many people, and you can tell when visiting the courses, as I've been lucky enough to do on many occasions. Same goes of course for Doncaster, home of the Betfred St Leger, and let's not forget Redcar; though it's the only one of the nine I've yet to visit. Here we go then - seven cracking races on the Beverley card, which kicks in at 14:15. If you're tempted, give it a visit sometime - it's gorgeous.

14:45 - Brimfulofattitude @ 13/8

Two-year-olds go 5f in this maiden contest where few have much experience to fall back on.

One of the slightly more well-versed entrants is our selection Brimfulofattitude, who has run twice so far, finishing third on both occasions. By far the better of her efforts was last time here 15 days ago, running on, beaten 1.75l.

Seven-pound claimer Ethan Tindall rides for her handler Richard Fahey, and he's been in the saddle for both the Soldiers' Call filly's starts. That familiarity can prove vital, he's well drawn in the one box, and Mr Fahey is consistently one of the country's, let alone the county's, most prominent trainers.

15:15 - Sovereign Wealth @ 11/8

Another maiden, this time over 7.5f, for juveniles.

Our selection Sovereign Wealth is a colt by the phenomenal Frankel, is in the care of George Boughey at HQ, and Danny Tudhope rides. One run so far, at Epsom over 7f, nearly four weeks ago - resulting in a promising running-on third beaten 3.5l.

He's sure to be better for the experience and though this is a very nice race with some top yards represented he's the one they've all got to beat in my book. Fans of Sir Mark Prescott's Conjecture will debate that fiercely but she's had four starts already and others could improve past her.

16:15 - Triggerman @ 9/4

Decent Class 4 handicap over 7.5f, small field, but gloriously trappy.

Trainer Julie Camacho has had her moments this season but is presently enduring a relatively dry spell. I'm hoping that this contest will ease that situation somewhat courtesy of her four-year-old Ribchester gelding Triggerman.

The selection has won just once in 16 starts but last time 15 days ago, here, he was beaten a short-head in a slightly lower grade. That was a fine effort and he's up just a pound for his trouble, to a mark of 69.

Looks to me to have the penalised Bell Shot to beat, and I'm hoping he can do just that. Ryan Sexton, very familiar with the horse, has the riding assignment.

16:45 - Time Tells All @ 6/4

A Class 5 handicap over 10f closes out our Lucky 15, and we're siding with a five-year-old gelding by Sea The Stars who's won over this quirky course and distance before.

Time Tells All has won just once in 18 spins but is admirably consistent, with a couple of seconds and five thirds. At Ponty last time 17 days ago he was played rather late and got within 1.25l of the winner, same grade/trip.

His mark of 68 remains unchanged and on this similarly stiff track if his finishing kick can be timed more effectively there's every chance of success in my view. Malton handler Declan Carroll has only travelled about 50 miles to be here and it could prove to be an inspired move.

Prior to Pontefract he'd won nicely here in a slightly lower grade and is evidently in great heart just now. The excellent Zac Wheatley, who claims a handy 3lb, is in the plate.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £90 for your total £7.50 stake.
