Newmarket Tips: Three to follow on Friday

There's a feast of racing action heading our way on Friday with seven meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland. I'm particularly drawn to the six-race card on offer at Newmarket, where Charlie Appleby will be hoping for more success in the Novice Stakes.
Below you will find my three Newmarket Tips for Friday, August 1.
Newmarket Tips - Friday, August 1
- 17:45 Newmarket - Beckford's Folly @ 3/10
- 18:55 Newmarket - Walson's Law @ 3/1
- 19:57 Newmarket - Cloudy Rose @ 4/1

17:45 Newmarket - Beckford's Folly @ 3/10
Appleby's yard have a good record in this Class 4 6f race and he will be hoping that BECKFORD'S FOLLY can do the business on Friday, having landed his maiden success over this C&D last time out in June.
The two-year-old colt was hooded on debut at Lingfield as he finished fourth of six and the headgear was dropped for his visit to Newmarket last time out, which yielded the desired result.
Appleby and connections will be fascinated to see how he handles himself on this occasion, particularly in a field where he is currently one of the most experienced runners. There are a few debutants declared here, so the son of Lope De Vega does hold a slight advantage, and I think he can secure his yard an impressive win to kickstart the day.

18:55 Newmarket - Walson's Law @ 3/1
Since swapping George Bouhey's yard for Eve Johnson Houghton's in May, Walson's Law has looked impressive on two of his three starts, winning two of them. He got off to a flying start at Windsor (1m) at 20/1 in June, before faltering to fifth of 13 on his next appearance at Kempton (AW) over the same distance.
The four-year-old then improved and got back to winning ways at Newbury at the start of July over 7f, the same distance covered in this Class 4 handicap. That victory was eye-catching as he prevailed having made his way up from the back, and I think this may bode well for his chances at Newmarket.
It's his first visit here since his debut in July 2024, when he was fifth of eight in the Novice Stakes. Progress has been made since then, so I think he's a strong contender on this occasion.
EXTRA PLACE RACE - Betfred are paying three places instead of two.

19:57 Newmarket - Cloudy Rose @ 4/1
Nine runners are declared for this Class 5 handicap over 1m 4f, and the one who stands out to me is CLOUDY ROSE for John Berry's yard. Her form has picked up drastically in her past two appearances, landing back-to-back successes at Brighton (1m 4f) and more recently Doncaster (1m 61/2f), with the former being won comfortably by eight lengths.
This will be her first visit to Newmarket but she arrives with strong claims based on current form. Emily Rebecca is another who heads here bidding for a hat-trick of victories but I think Cloudy Rose has the edge because she has five wins over this distance to her rival's two.
Berry's mare may have more weight on her plate to deal with but I think she still has more to offer.
