After riding a wave of early-season momentum, Nottingham Forest narrowly missed out on Champions League football last season, finishing in seventh place, after being third with five games remaining.

The Tricky Trees did qualify for the Uefa Europa League however, - their first involvement in European football in 30 years. Below you will find my prediction for the upcoming campaign using Nottingham Forest Premier League Odds.

Despite throwing away the prospect of competing in the Champions League this season, there will be plenty of excitement surrounding Nottingham Forest heading into the new campaign.

The Tricky Trees had an excellent season - beating Manchester City at home, doing a double over Manchester United for the first time since 1992/93 and thumping Brighton & Hove Albion 7-0 with just 37% possession were some of the standout moments.

They also qualified for the Europa League – their first taste of European football for quite some time – and managing to keep hold of star players such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson will only help their cause this year.

Transfer Business:

Transfers In: Dan Ndoye (Bologna - £34m), Igor Jesus (Botafogo - £10m), Jair Cunha (Botafogo - undisclosed), Angus Gunn (Norwich City – free transfer)

Transfers Out: Anthony Elanga (Newcastle United - £55m), Danilo (Botafogo - £16m), Ramon Sosa (Palmeiras – £10m), Andrew Omobamidele (Strasbourg - undisclosed), Matt Turner (Lyon - undisclosed), Lewis O’Brien (Wrexham - undisclosed), Harry Tofolo (Charlotte FC – free transfer), Jonathan Panzo (Rio Ave – free transfer), Tyler Bindon (Sheffield United – loan), Wayne Hennessey (retired)

The summer window has been a mixed bag for Forest.

The notable departure is Anthony Elanga, who leaves the City Ground after two seasons with Forest. The 23-year-old has blossomed into one of the most creative wingers in the Premier League, amassing 31 goal contributions over two campaigns with Santo's side.

In terms of incomings, Jair Cunha and Igor Jesus are the most significant arrivals, both from Brazilian outfit Botafogo, while Dan Ndoye - signed from Bologna - is seen as the aforementioned Elanga's replacement out wide.

Gibbs-White appeared to be on the brink of a move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer, but the 25-year-old instead chose to remain at the City Ground, penning a new three-year-deal at the club.

Key Player: Igor Jesus

After securing Europa League football, Forest have dipped their toe into the South American market in an attempt to bolster their squad as much of the goalscoring burden fell upon the shoulders of Chris Wood last season.

The acquisition of Jesus catches the eye for a number of reasons - the Brazilian played a starring role in Botafogo's Fifa Club World Cup campaign earlier this summer, and he could add a new dimension to the Forest front line.

Wood had an excellent 2024/25 campaign but he often needs the ball played into feet and seldom stretches the opposition backline. On the other hand, Jesus often finds himself hovering on the last line of defence, posing an alternative threat to the veteran striker's power and hold-up play.

It also gives Santo the option of deploying a two-striker system or rotating Wood and Jesus accordingly if Forest are to be competitive across all competitions this season.

Prediction: 10th

The Thursday-Sunday matchweeks will take its toll on this squad – especially since Nuno Espirito Santo tends not to rotate his side.

The former Wolves manager used only 23 players in 2024/25, the fewest in the league (eight sides used 30 or more). Of those, 13 made at least 31 Premier League appearances.

In addition, we can see Forest sacrificing their league position in order to make a deep run in Europe, which is why we’ve got them 10th.
