Football Bet of the Day: Paraguay calls on Sunday night

We’ve got the Club World Cup final, and England are in action in the Women’s European Championship on Sunday - but once again our Football Bet of the Day heads to South America for value.

I’ve got a thing for the Paraguayan Primera Divison right now, so let’s take a look at this old stomping ground once more for Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day. 

I’m genuinely surprised to see Sportivo Trinidense priced up as the underdogs for their home match against Club Olimpia, which kicks off at 22:30 on Sunday night.  I’ve got a soft spot for Trinidense and they made a winning start to the Torneo Clausura last week by beating Deportivo Recoleta 4-2 away from home, having raced into an early 4-0 lead.

I truly think they can challenge for the title this season in Paraguay, given what we have seen from them in recent months. They were the form team at the end of the Apertura, and ended up finishing fourth, 10 points behind the champions, Libertad. However, their form at the back-end of that campaign was sparkling, and they look to have picked up where they left off. 

They have now won five and drawn one of their last six outings, and interestingly, only lost four games across the entirety of the Apertura campaign - just two more than the champions. The reason they weren’t closer to challenging for the title is because they racked up the most draws in the league - 10 in total. Club Guarani, who finished in third, lost twice as many games as Trinidense but still accumulated four more points than the Asuncion-based outfit, so you can see where they need to make up points this season.

Towards the end of the campaign they finally got onto a winning run but it was too little, too late. However, it does give them good momentum heading into this new season, and this winning run looks set to continue.

They are taking on an Olimpia outfit that finished fifth in the Apertura just behind them, but were in dreadful form as the season came to a close. Including their opening draw of this campaign, they've now won just one of their last nine competitive matches, and that came against San Antonio Bulo Bulo - a poor Bolivian outfit that they beat in the Copa Libatadores.

This pits together two teams in very different form, and for the life of me I can’t work out why the outfit on an unbeaten run, that finished a place higher and one point better off in the first half of 2025 are the underdogs for the meeting. It’s a price we will certainly take advantage of this Sunday, and so Sportivo Trinidense to beat Club Olimpia @ 21/10 is our Football Bet of the Day.
