Grand prix of abu dhabi 2024

After the chaotic drama of the Canadian Grand Prix, which saw George Russell take the race win under a safety car after Lando Norris crashed into the back of his teammate, F1 returns this weekend in Austria.

In the same week that the F1 Movie was released worldwide, it feels like this is a massive seven days for not only the Drivers’ Championship, but for the sport as a whole. Below you can find my Austrian Grand Prix 2025 Predictions.

As Shania Twain once sang “Oh, so you’re Brad Pitt? That don’t impress me much...” Although I understand the excitement around the release of the F1 Movie, I’m far more enlivened by this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix. You can keep your Hollywood script, nobody can plan the drama of a Formula One season - well except Michael Masi of course. Allegedly.

After the McLarens got a little bit too close for comfort towards the end of the race in Montreal, Lando rightly took the blame for the incident that cost him key ground in the title race. He is now 22 points behind Oscar Piastri, and we are approaching the one-race gap of 25 points, which the Aussie would love to establish between himself and his teammate.

The McLarens are once again the favourites to take the race win in Austria, while Lando is now out to 3/1 to win the Drivers’ Championship, which may prove to be good value if he can erm… stop crashing into his mate.

George Russell Podium Finish @ 6/5

Russell is a massive 8/1 to win this race which feels like big value given he scooped the win in Canada and won here in 2024. Mercedes have been carefully adding minor upgrades to their car and it looks to have delievered them more pace, as Kimi Antonelli secured his first podium finish of the season, finishing ahead of Piastri in Montreal.

Max Verstappen is still a lingering threat and scooped second last time out, while the McLarens should have the most pace, but I think there is real value in backing Russell to finish in the top three here. He won here last year, beating Piastri to the punch by 1.9 seconds and it’s clearly a track he enjoys racing at.

Ferrari are also preparing upgrades but truthfully I think Russell is in a great position to finish in the top three, given the state of the other competitors. He could even make it back-to-back wins and inject some fire into his season.

Isack Hadjar Points Finish @ 8/11

Ah, hello old friend. We’ve backed this to come in pretty consistently this season, but both RB drivers had woeful drives in Canada as Liam Lawson DNF’d and Isack Hadjar finished 16th. It just felt like one of those weekends for Hadjar as he did well to qualify in ninth, proving his pace, but everything conspired against him on the Sunday.

I think the value still remains to back him to finish in the top 10 in this one, as he has done so in three of the last five. I think the pace and ability is there for him to get the job done, at a reasonable price.
