Inter Milan vs Urawa Reds Bet Builder Tips: Debut goal for Pio?

Inter Milan began the Cristian Chivu era with a 1-1 draw against Monterrey and they will be hoping to get their first win under their former player when they face Urawa Reds in Seattle (20:00 BST, DAZN).

Inter Milan vs Urawa Reds Odds

Urawa Reds with +3 handicap

Inter Milan should be able to win this game, given the disparity in quality between the two teams. However, I don’t think that they are going to hammer Urawa Reds in the way that many expect, so I’m going to pick Urawa Reds +3 as my first selection.

For those new to this market, that means that the Japanese outfit are given a three-goal head start in betting terms, so even if they lose by two goals, this selection will be a winner. I do believe Inter will win this match, and the price of 2/11 suggests that, but I just think they aren’t quite as good as many are making out at this Club World Cup. 

I know their season ended in heartbreak, and Simone Inzaghi’s departure has only added to the uncertainty Inter face this summer. I’m not utterly convinced by Chivu and his long-term future at the club, and his side have a lot of injury issues heading into this fixture. Marcus Thuram is the latest addition to the treatment room that includes key players Denzel Dumfries, Hakan Calhanoglu and Davide Frattesi. 

There’s going to be another round of young faces in this starting XI, and although I don’t rate Urawa Reds that highly, I think they can escape with a narrow defeat. 

Francesco Pio Esposito to score

With Thuram out, the reports suggest that youngster Francesco Pio Esposito could be handed his Inter debut this weekend. He’s watched as his older brother has recently made his way into the team after a series of loans in Italy, but now it looks like Francesco Pio will get his chance to show what he can do. 

He’s been a reliable goalscorer in his fledgling career, doing especially well with Italy’s U21, hitting seven goals in 11 appearances. His loan spell with Spezia saw him make 73 appearances over two seasons, but he really came into his own this term as he scored 17 Serie B goals in 35. If he gets his chance, I think he will take it - and he could very quickly become a hot property in European football.

Under 8.5 corners

I’m not expecting Urawa Reds to offer much here, and one quirk of their 3-1 defeat to River Plate was the severe lack of corners. Despite there being four goals and 11 shots on target in total, there were just two corners. Now that could just be a coincidence, but in a game that I don’t think will be all that exciting, I can see there being a limited amount. 

Inter Milan saw 10 corners in their fixture, having six of their own, but I believe that this will not be a popular game for the old set pieces.
