Nottingham racecourse

There is an equal mix of jumps and Flat racing in the UK and Ireland on Tuesday, with six meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Lingfield before they go at Nottingham, Southwell, Cork, Hexham and Huntingdon. Among our Tuesday fancies is one for trainer Dylan Cunha, who does well with his runners in staying races at Nottingham.

14:32 Nottingham - Toby Tops @ 1/1

This is a fascinating race featuring two promising stayers and it could come down to a match between them. Godsend is a rapidly improving four-year-old who represents last year's winning trainer Sir Mark Prescott, but preference is for the other of similar ilk, TOBY TOPS.

Dylan Cunha is a trainer going places and he has a good record in staying races at Nottingham. That was evident when Toby Tops was successful over course and distance in April and the progressive four-year-old continued on the up when winning at Ascot last time.

Toby Tops powered home from an unpromising position that day and was well on top at the finish. The handicapper has nudged him up 7lb in the weights, but there looks more to come.

His form figures over this 2m trip now read 6111 and he is unbeaten under Billy Loughnane, who is back on board to take the ride. That tips the scales in favour of Toby Tops for this one.

16:02 Nottingham - North Star @ 7/4

George Boughey has saddled 10 winners from 50 runners at Nottingham in recent seasons and seven of them came over middle distances, so his NORTH STAR looks a serious contender in this one.

The lightly raced Sea The Stars filly is bred to improve as she goes up in trip and should find this 1m2f distance more to her liking than when only sixth over a mile on the all-weather at Southwell last time. She was readily done for speed late on that day after going off at 5/6.

She is better than she showed there, when she was having her first start for more than four months, and significant improvement can be anticipated now that she has a run behind her.

This will be her turf debut, but all of her winning siblings acted well on grass and there is a good chance that the change of surface can bring about an even better run from North Star.

20:58 Hexham - Grand Scheme @ 5/4

It's worth waiting for the very last race of the day to back GRAND SCHEME, who was one of the most impressive winners of the summer jumps season at Southwell only eight days ago and appears to have outstanding claims under a 7lb penalty for that 15-length victory.

Grand Scheme was having only his fifth outing over hurdles that day and had been tailed off over 2m4f on his previous start, but the drop back to 2m brought about an improved effort. He ran right away from the field in the closing stages and that is after racing keenly early on.

He won three times on the Flat for Richard Hannon, so is definitely capable of more success over jumps now that he has got his head in front, and the only question mark is over whether he can reproduce that performance on this quick turnaround. If he does, he should win again.
