NAP of the Day: Bucanero Fuerte to star on comeback

A quartet of Sunday meetings across Britain and Ireland will round off the weekend's racing action. Flat action is from Newmarket alongside Ripon and Naas, while there is jumps fare from Stratford.

Sunday's NAP is back for another season of sprinting in the Amo Racing colours after his stint at stud didn't work out and he is fancied to repeat his first-time-out success of 12 months as he heads for Naas.

Trainer Adrian Murray will be thrilled to have BUCANERO FUERTE back in his ranks for another season after his second career calling at stud didn't go to plan.

The Amo Racing-owned son of Wootton Bassett was retired to stud last year but some fertility issues got in the way and so he's now switched his focus back to the racecourse and starring in sprints.

Winner of three of his five starts as a two-year-old in 2023, that haul included the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh with Porta Fortuna behind in second spot.

He returned to action last season on this card, winning the Group 3 Lacken Stakes over 6f in the hands of David Egan under his 3lb penalty as they made every yard in front.

A trio of Group 1 assignments followed at Haydock, the Curragh and Ascot over 5f/6f without further success and that appeared to be the end of the road for him as far as a racing career went.

He's high class on his day and the drop to 5f here is offset by the stiff nature of the track at Naas. He should be primed for this comeback and his first-time-out showing last year is very encouraging.

At his best he'd be too good for the likes of Magnum Force and Powerful Nation, obvious rivals on paper for this challenge. The four-year-old is fancied to bounce and make all again as he returns to racing.
