Horse Racing Tips: Hawk can win the war at Leopardstown

A busy Sunday awaits, with jumps action at Ludlow, Plumpton and Killarney plus Flat fare at Leopardstown and Newcastle.
My horse racing tips for the day involves a couple of wagers in two of the Pattern races at Leopardstown, plus another at Newcastle’s Premier all-weather meeting.
Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, May 11
- 14:20 Leopardstown - Chantez @ 5/1
- 14:55 Leopardstown - Chicago Critic @ 14/1
- 16:00 Newcastle - War Hawk @ 8/1

14:20 Leopardstown - Chantez @ 5/1
It is interesting to see Ger Lyons turning CHANTEZ out so quickly in the Group 3 Mutamakina Stakes at Leopardstown as she only ran six days ago.
Not much went right there, the filly getting upset in the stalls beforehand and not getting the clearest of runs when it mattered as she failed to justify relatively short odds.
However, Lyons is fitting her with a first-time hood to change things up, and if she recaptures the spark of her juvenile campaign back at her favourite venue (two victories and a head defeat to the smart Exactly on her three starts there), she can put Fiery Lucy and Vespertilio to the sword.
Fiery Lucy may need this on her return for Gavin Cromwell, while Vespertilio has seemingly regressed since her runner-up finish in the French 1,000 Guineas and concedes 12lb to the younger fillies.

14:55 Leopardstown - Chicago Critic @ 14/1
Diego Velazquez is a worthy favourite for the Listed Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown on his return for Aidan O’Brien, whose horses are starting to hit full stride.
He will doubtless improve for the run with bigger targets in mind, though, and there may be merit in siding with CHICAGO CRITIC instead.
The Johnny Murtagh-trained four-year-old wasn’t at his best on his comeback, but 6f is a little too sharp for him and he seems sure to appreciate an easy mile.
The surface should be on the quick side and Chicago Critic’s standout performance came when he recorded a cracking third to Haatem in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot on good to firm going.
A reproduction of that display can ensure Chicago Critic gives the market leader plenty to think about.

16:00 Newcastle - War Hawk @ 8/1
Simon and Ed Crisford appear to have a solid chance in the 1m2f handicap at Newcastle with WAR HAWK.
The son of Mehmas shaped promisingly at Wolverhampton following a gelding operation in March, keeping on into fourth in a slowly run race with a wide trip not helping.
He then landed a gamble upped in distance for a 1m2f Lingfield handicap in comfortable fashion, and although he couldn’t match that level at Nottingham on his turf debut and next run, he bumped into the seriously well-handicapped Great David there. That horse ran a big race in the Dee Stakes at Chester this week to enhance the form.
War Hawk gives the impression he may be better suited to the all-weather and his hold-up style suits this track.
