Harlequins vs Gloucester Prediction: HQ date perfect for free-flowing Cherry & Whites

Harlequins are probably the Premiership's pioneers in generating hype and atmosphere around their club. 

They head across the road again on Saturday as they swap the Stoop for Twickenham for their Big Summer Kick-Off fixture.

Quins also need a positive result, as time is running out on their bid to close the nine-point gap between themselves and the top four following a 40-7 humbling at Leicester in late April, their third league defeat in a row. 

Gloucester are also in that conversation, sitting fifth in the standings after dismantling Exeter 79-17 at Kingsholm the following day. 

George Skivington's side have found ways to cover their lack of physicality by outplaying teams with ball-in-hand. 

They are the underdogs in the betting but the Cherry and Whites could add to Quins' woes on Saturday.

Harlequins have made four changes, with Rodrigo Isgro's return on the wing arguably the most notable. 

In the pack, flanker Will Evans replaces Chandler Cunningham-South, who has a calf injury, Will Porter is named at scrum-half and Ben Waghorn is at inside centre.  

Unsurprisingly, Gloucester have selected an unchanged side from the one that battered Exeter in round 15, meaning Val Rapava Ruskin has overcome a knock to start. 

There is one alteration on the bench, where loosehead prop Ciaran Knight replaces Jamal Ford-Robinson. Knight will make his 99th appearance for the club if summoned to step in for Rapava Ruskin. 

Both teams will have a British & Irish Lions representative following Thursday's squad announcement, with Marcus Smith at number 10 for the hosts and Tomos Williams taking on Porter at half-back.

A 'home' win for Quins is 4/7, with a tie 20/1 and a Gloucester victory 6/4.

It looks set to be another frustrating end to the season for Harlequins, who always promise so much but have seen their momentum fizzle out, losing their last three in the league to Bath, Sale and Leicester. 

Quins have conceded 40 or more points in all of those matches, while among those results, they were also humbled 62-0 by Leinster in the Champions Cup. 

Their obvious defensive flaws will delight Gloucester, who bounced back from a 61-26 Challenge Cup loss to Bath and a 36-14 defeat at Saracens to embarrass Exeter in their last outing. 

Skivington's side are still to win away from home in the Premiership in 2025 but have a great run-in considering they face Newcastle next up and then Northampton on the final weekend, when the Saints may or may not be celebrating becoming European champions. 

Harlequins will also have chances to take points against Exeter and Bristol but looked listless at Leicester and even playing at Twickenham may not inspire them. 

In contrast, HQ's wide open spaces should suit this exciting Gloucester side and they can grab another victory to boost their playoff push.
